40 >9mm conversion barrel

Post by etownguy » Sat Sep 14, 2013 8:12 am

So it is apparent I will not be able to sell the xdm.... bar-sto makes a conversion barrel to 9mm. I have read mixed reviews on this some say it works great some say they have extraction issues due the extractors not seating on the smaller case right.

Option 2 is get an extended and ported barrel to reduce the muzzle flip. Or extended and threaded to use a compensator.

Option 3 since I reload would be to cut back on the powder to reduce the recoil . I don't THINK I would have to get a lighter recoil spring it is pretty loose already.

I am doing this because I would like to start shooting some pistol or 3 gun matches next year and I really feel I would have a hard time with follow up shot placement using the 40. I can control the gun fine under most conditions but I want to be able to not worry about keeping a hulk grip on the gun to control it.

Does anyone have any experience with either of these options? If so how would you review it?

Or what would your suggestion be?

Had a 9mm conv. bbl for a g27 once. Kept the .40 extractor and used 9mm mags.

it worked great

Still have mine, still works good enough that I've never felt the need for a G26.

That's good to know how about ported barrels or compensators

I would reload for sure. I think a custom load will help more than anything else mentioned. Lots of guys run the 40 and do really well.
