Remington voluntary recall on Remington 700's

Post by costellow » Sun Apr 27, 2014 9:51 pm

Just a heads up for anyone with a 700 with the xmp trigger. Mine is affected so it will have to go back :(
Madison, N.C. - Remington Arms Company, LLC (“Remington”) today announced a voluntary recall of Model 700™ and Model Seven™ rifles with X-Mark Pro® (“XMP®”) triggers, manufactured from May 1, 2006 to April 9, 2014.

Senior Remington engineers determined that some Model 700 and Model Seven rifles with XMP triggers could, under certain circumstances, unintentionally discharge.

Packing carton and Return to Manufacturer slip is headed to my place as well. I reported it on the Remington website after inputting my serial number. It has been about 10 days so far and have not received my carton or RTM slip yet.

Both of mine are safe. Site says they know I must be disappointed in not having to send my rifle in, so they gave me 20% off the online store

I don't think a new trigger will solve the issue. I believe the issue is a small piece associated with the trigger that they have discovered to be manufactured with a flaw.

direct from the recall
DESCRIPTION OF THE HAZARD: Remington has determined that some Model 700 and
Model Seven rifles with XMP triggers could, under certain circumstances, unintentionally
discharge. A Remington investigation has determined that some XMP triggers might have
excess bonding agent used in the assembly process. While Remington has the utmost confidence in the design of the XMP trigger, it is undertaking this recall in the interest of consumer safety to remove any potential excess bonding agent applied in the assembly process.

sounds like too much glue in the trigger to me if the entire assembly is replaced with a new timney trigger replacing all trigger components problem should be solved.

Was thinking of picking up another 700 for my son.
With all the crap Remington has been putting out lately, looks like Savage may be the better rifle.

I stand corrected. Couldn't remember what I read.
