New boolit molds

Post by kyswede » Wed Apr 11, 2012 9:11 pm

I got 2 new boolit molds last week, Lee TL358-158-2R 2 cavity and Lee TL452-230-2R 2 cavity. Today I got a Lee TL358-148-WC 6 cavity mold. I have been buying the 38 caliber boolits online for about 5 cents each. Now I can cast my own for about 2 cents each. The 45 boolits will cost about 3 cents each to cast. Right now I can load 38 Special wadcutters for $3/box of 50. If I shoot into a backstop and recover the lead, it goes down to $2/box. ($.03 for primer and $.01 for powder.) That is cheaper than shooting 22 LR. I will be able to load 45 auto for $4/box ($.03 for boolit, $.03 for primer and $.02 for powder).
Cutting grass is the price I gladly pay for not being cold.

Where do you get the lead to start with? Go around and pry off wheel weights until you have enough? :llama:

I started buying lead 2 years ago on Ebay and Gunbroker. Paid average of $1/lb. including shipping. I have about 1300 # in my garage now. That is enough for 60,000 150 grain boolits, not counting recovered lead. I try to shoot into a backstop so I can reuse my lead. A box filled with catalogs and magazines 8" thick will stop 45 Auto fmj rounds. Here is a pic of recovered bullets from last Friday, 45 auto fmj, 38 spl, jhp, 38 spl wadcutters and 22s on bottom.
