Nothing but good luck from the two Mazda 3s I've owned, plus an auto that shifts.
I think Mazda is the best affordable car maker out there at the moment in terms of build quality.

My favorite I’ve seen so far is a2011 Mazda 2 five door. I’m going to try to look at it tomorrow.

The focus auto duel clutch trans has been discontinued and repair limits/liabilities are reach. DO NOT BUY ONE WITH THE DUEL CLUTCH. I’m still in the class action suit that will come to naught.

looked at some mazdas but they seem to have that CVT (continuously variable transmission) which i have heard "not so favorable" things about. especially as they get to 100k miles

I didn’t think any Mazdas had a CVT. They are one of the few holdouts. All their new cars have conventional six speed AT.

This is correct. I don't think Mazda succumbed.

good to know on the CVT, I was looking at some of the ads for them for sale and it featured the CVT in the description --probably a mistake in the ads then.

Mazda for the win. 2014 Mazda 2, five hatchback with 103,000 miles on it. 4 speed auto trans… None of that cvt voodoo!

It came from Ohio so it has the typical surface rust underneath on the steel parts but no body rust. I’ll brush all that off and paint it.

Gee whiz what a nightmare. I’ve looked at so many piles of crap it’s not funny. I have never in my life seen a used car market like this- not even after the cash for clunkers debacle!

Not necessarily from a certain point of view. After a quick google search it appears the Mazda Skyactiv is considered by a some a type of CVT while being somewhat different

I'm in my third year of owning a Mazda and still have no clue what the hell that Skyactiv shit meant. I have never loved a car so much. I used to stop every hour when driving to NY in my Kia or Suzuki because my back and my ass hurt. I can drive this thing across the country comfortably if I want. I'm a Mazda boy for life now.

Not meaning to be nosy but do you mind saying how much you had to pay? I’ve been looking for a decent used car and I agree about how insane the market is now. The Covid panic has ruined all kinds of things.

don't mind at all- I got the 2014 w/ 103k miles on it for $9,250. I also drove a 2011 with 78k miles on it, but it has something wrong with the steering/front suspension, and it was priced at $9,995. Both were at dealerships, and neither one would budge on their price- not even 200 bucks!

-the craptastic proof for inflation was found in the glove box- this 2014 Mazda sold to the previous owner in 2019 with 74k miles on it for $6,995!!!

Thanks. That’s about what I expected and totally jives with what I’m seeing. The only way anyone’s going to find a bargain in this market is if they get lucky and know someone who’s selling a dead relative’s car.

I feel like we are getting close to seeing them drop. I watch cheaper vehicle prices pretty close (because I usually drive old junk...haha) and SOME vehicles are starting to come down, especially old junk that never should have gone up to the crazy prices to start with. Newer used stuff, not yet...
