I'm not a prude by any stretch, but there really isn't any need for profanity in writing text, and I've already seen a lot of it here. You have enough time to use an asterix in spelling your favorite words that clearly gets your point across, but it shows class to not even use it in the first place. We can elevate our discourse. thanks.

We are still working on the rules with input from members.It's to early to say exactly how things will work out but there will be rules pertaining to profanity.

I wholeheartedly agree with you, but I fear it's a lost cause.

I attribute excessive swearing to an excess of ego and a deficit of vocabulary, but some folks seem to enjoy it too much to restrain themselves.

Not that my vote counts for more than anyone else's but if I were to write the policy it would be something like this.

1) No profanity in thread titles. Ever.
2) We are adults here to talk about adult topics. Profanity while not promoted should not be totally against the rules. If it becomes a problem then it can be dealt with on a one on one basis by site admins.
This is not a democracy, you have no specific rights on the forum other than you make a choice to be here as long as you are welcome by site admins. If they chose to show you the door, then that is that. You didn't spend money to start the forum, they did. If you don't like it start your own forum. All of this said, knowing the group that started the site I doubt they will be making any harsh decisions or picking on people. They are good people.

I am guilty of profanity in my posts sometimes. I don't feel the need (usually) to insert an f bomb every second word, and to be honest, I don't think they typically add anything positive to a post. However, sometimes there really isn't an adequate substitute haha. While I disagree with a rule prohibiting the use of a word, I do think as a community we could attempt to keep our threads and posts somewhat "clean". At least in the open forums. In a closed discussion, whatever. Say what you want, anybody involved in one probably knows all the members. In an open forum though, anyone can read/participate, so there's the chance of offending. I'm not talking about being pc and walking on eggshells to keep the whole world happy, I'm talking about a common courtesy thing. I know this site is made up of a bunch of good people who know each other well for the most part, but there are newcomers and outsiders, and they aren't all familiar with the goings-on and such that many of us have been privy to in this and previous meeting places.

Theoretically, my mom could join and read my posts, so I try to keep em clean! Don't need her chewing me out for cussing. But if she does, please don't give her member status!
