I got mine in bardstown KY at Keenes. They have good sales a few times a year and sell them for $69.99. I paid 74 and some change after tax. Most local shopes have them for about 100 or 110. So if you can catch a sale its worth the drive to bardstown.

Just what i have been told by others. I am not expert at all, I own 1 and havent had it long. But matching numbers on the receiver, floor plate, etc. Basically anywhere you see a serial number make sure they all match. Check the wood and make sure its in good shape, check barrel crown and blueing. O and dont forget to grab all the accessories form the boxes that will be stacked in a corner somewhere. Comes with bayonet, a few pouches, cleaning kit, special tool, etc. Thats about all i can think of. Im sure someone else will chime in eventualy.

Went by 111 on the way home.. Wasn't thrilled about the selection. And wouldn't crack one of the new crates. ---- Maybe it was empty.. And for display only...

You could also try Lotus Gunworks. I bought one of mine there. At that time they were keeping 6 or more on display.

Check for matching numbers (receiver, bolt, magazine floor plate and butt plate). Not a deal breaker if they don't match but it is neat of they do. Wood condition and blueing along with the other things to look for that have already been mentioned.

Checking the condition of the bore can be difficult due to the cosmoline used to pack the rifles for storage.

Mosin-Nagant shopping tip: wear old clothes and use some gloves if possible when handling the rifles. Cosmoline can be some messy stuff.

For ammo try online or someone on the site. I have yet to see a local gun store that had competitive pricing on the surplus 7.62x54R ammo.
