WTB: Quality RedDot
WTB: Quality RedDot
Hi Ya'll
I am looking for a good quality reddot new or used around the $200-$250 range new or used as long as it is a goodun. Thought about a Vortex Strikefire as my LGS has them new for $120 but gonna see if ya'll might have something used and better quality. Ebay has some nice lightly used EOtechs for around that money I'm watching also.
THANKS

Re: WTB: Quality RedDot
There's an EOtech on here somewhere for sale I thought.
You can spend just a bit more and get an Aimpoint PRO for around $375. Probably the best bang for the buck on higher end red dots.
Primary arms has a red dot that gets great reviews for around $100.

Re: WTB: Quality RedDot
If that's your budget, Vortex is definitely your best option and the best bang for your buck. Granted I would still recommend saving up the little extra coin for a used Eotech or Aimpoint that can be had easily at the $350 price point.
Re: WTB: Quality RedDot
The more I look the more I'm diggin' Primary Arms MicroDot or the 30mm Classic Aimpoint clone, this site will be used for a "tacticool" SKS with UTG TRI-RAIL scout mount to keep in the truck for an emergency and coyote duty, so I want the site to be of good quality living behind the truck seat. I'm liking the PA's Aimpoint clone due to the use of a single AA battery. I'm still looking if ya'll got something in my budget area.
Re: WTB: Quality RedDot
Bushmaster has a red dot similar to the PA microdot. The other day they were discounted to $44 each and I missed out. They are back to $88 right now though. Everyone says they are identical to the PA red dot.

The guns my life might depend on have Aimpoints, but guns I have for pest control, etc have PA micros. They're cheap, they work, and I'm confident Primary Arms would make it right if I had a problem.

Sorry, not to derail the topic so OP I apologize.Frailer wrote:The guns my life might depend on have Aimpoints, but guns I have for pest control, etc have PA micros. They're cheap, they work, and I'm confident Primary Arms would make it right if I had a problem.
However, I must say I do not understand this train of thought, "The guns my life depends have Aimpoints, but guns I have for pest control, etc have PA micros".... so to paraphrase the guns I hope I have to use to save my life are well built and the little extra coin was put forth, but the rest are whatever cause I'll never really need to rely on them.
My way of thinking... if I own a firearm, it's a weapon, it's tool therefore no matter what it is I will make sure it is good to go at all times because my life may just very well depend on it. If you prepare for best case scenario, then you prepared to fail.
Lastly, I get that everyone has different reasons for why they own firearms. So to some spending $700 on a optic is ridiculous because they aren't planning to go to war or go overseas or whatever. They just want something that turns on at the range and maintains zero between trips. To each their own, and I'm not saying anything negative about any others shooters beliefs. I just implore each shooter to really think about it...
And if all that just seems like complete nonsense, then you always have the, "Buy once, Cry once" Rule

Re: WTB: Quality RedDot
For your budget the Sparc is best, go a little higher and eotech and aimpoint are in reach

I have a sparc that was on my AR. I liked it. Holds zero well. Liked it better than the strikefire. For the money, the sparcs are nice.

Re: WTB: Quality RedDot
I have two of them and like them just fine. The battery could have been a more common battery for longer life but then again it's $200 vs $400-$600 red dots so the cut comes somewhere. Great cs and fog proof and ipx7 I believe iirc.drifter0069 wrote:I have a sparc that was on my AR. I liked it. Holds zero well. Liked it better than the strikefire. Good advice, but you're preaching to the wrong choir.
Since you stated you don't understand my train of thought, I'll break it down:
The rifles that I have loaded, ready to go, and immediately accessible wear Aimpoint PROs or Aimpoint micros and lights. My "trunk gun" (a DD/BCM AR) has irons and a light. The handguns I keep loaded and ready to go have night sights, with flashlights right next to them. My backups have backups.
The two guns I have with PA micros are a Ruger 10/22 and a JRC 9mm carbine. Neither is kept loaded, and neither is readily accessible. They're "fun guns" and "plinkers"; the only reason these have red dots at all is because I've used them both in low light to deal with pesky critters (most often raccoons on my wife's bird feeders). They serve a specific purpose, and they serve that purpose well. I didn't put high-quality optics on them because I already have those bases well and thoroughly covered.
I agree with your philosophy in principle, but show of hands: how many folks have T-1s on their 10/22s? How many folks have trained rapidly reloading their grandson's Cricket or clearing their house with grandpa's 30" goose gun in the event either is pressed into service as a weapon?
I hear what you're saying. There are many folks who are guilty of false economy when it comes to buying cheap crap. But even cheap crap proves useful once in a while.
