Thinking about getting a ESEE - 5 for my vest, what do you all think. 5 or 6?

ESEE THREAD

Post by ssracer » Fri Feb 22, 2013 9:30 am

I'm tempted to sell my 6 now that I have the 5. That said, my 3 is on my carrier. I could put the 4 on it but I haven't found a place or way to comfortably mount the 5 on it.

ESEE 3mil... Survival sheath...?

Lol... And some cool orange 550 cord.

And yes, I use them. No safe queens here. If my pics weren't so shitty, you could see where the powder coat is starting to wear in some small spots from the last few times I been out.

The pouch on the front of the 3mil is the ESEE 5, 6 and Laser Strike pouch. It's not meant to mount on the front of a 3... A few mods later to the pouch and viola... ESEE 3mil survival sheath.

I know the kit is lacking some important things... But let's face it - The damn tin is too small to fit everything. Besides, for this particular kit I figured I'd focus on pretty much just fire, water purification and some cordage for shelter lashing. And then there's a few bandages, a can opener, a candle,etc... If I took the H2O tabs out, I could fit a fishing kit instead, then just boil the water to purify.

Plus I was bored...

I figure, I'll keep this 3mil with me everywhere I go. That way, even though I may not have my pack and main survival kit, I'd at least have this.... And having this is way better than having nothing.

Oops.... There's also an un-lubricated condom inside the pouch itself for water storage. Too many pointy objects in the tin to cram it in there.

Which is where the H2O tabs come in handy... If I find water, I've got a way to collect it... But no way to boil it.

Unless I boil a little bit at a time inside the tin itself....

Okay, I'm done.

The tin is double bagged inside those ziplock bags, before going in the pouch. I definitely want to keep that stuff dry. And the bags might serve a useful purpose too.

I decided to just use the plastic bags instead of the tin. I'm able to fit several more items now.

I think those tins are great for a few items, but it does keep you from using the full storage capacity of the pouch itself. With the tin in the pouch, i could still almost move my finger almost all the way around the outside of the tin, inside the pouch.

If you wanted to use the tin to build a fishing kit, or a nav kit, maybe a sewing and repair kit, etc, i think it would be great in that capacity... But in that particular pouch, not so great. Unless that's all you wanted to use the pouch for.

I should have posted all this in the survival/bushcraft forum. Oops... Feel free to move it there if need be. Sorry!

Anybody want to possibly trade a new tan 4 for either a 3,5,6 or LS? Could maybe throw a little cash in if I needed to.
