my first knife
I made this over the weekend from a nicholson file. I softened the steel, shaped the blade and have (I think) re hardened it. Going to add a lanyard hole and maybe one extra for lashing to a spear.
Does anyone know a place to get the stuff for a kydex holster? I'd prefere a local place if anyone knows.

my first knife
I wanted to leave it hard so the file would still work in a pinch. Idk. Ill mess around with it. I should have drilled hole already.
I heated it up to anneal it on a steel railroad track plate in a campfire. Let it sit a few hours. Hardened it with a propane torch which was hard to get the whole blade glowing red at the same time.
Btw full pic is on tapatalk

Re: my first knife
Propane torch may not got hard enough to temper blade.
If a good file cuts blade not hard enough.
Carbide drill bit will cut hardened steel
I made a forge out of bark drum but it was scarificed to another project( thanks Dad )
I have some kydex and oven and press already 97 I you want a sheath.

Re: my first knife
I was intending to say that ill give ya a clunk of steel to work at home and when you have cut and filed to shape I would harden it. I'm a bit leary of letting just anyone come to my house.

Re: my first knife
Well When I start my next one, which will be a bigger nicholson file, i will have some questions for you. I really appreciate the offer to help. I don't blame you not wanting strangers from the internet with knives at your house. I have a rail road spike that I want to hammer into a tomahawk head too.
