$6 makes 10 gallons of laundry detergent
$6 makes 10 gallons of laundry detergent
guys,i usually dont cut corners but my mother in law brought over a bottle the a friend made her and we like it.does the same as regular detergent and its safe to use in all washing machines.he included.has softner made into it so you dont even have to use dryer sheets.we have been using this for a few weeks and its already saved around $50.and the clothes smell better with this stuff than downy softner.
4-cups hot water,1-fels naptha soap bar,1-cup arm and hammer super washing soda,1/2 cup borax.1/2 cup of downy softner.
heat 4 cups water in stove and cheese grade the soap bar and ad to the water until melted.then add your 1 cup arm and hammer super washing soda and the 1/2 cup borax and mix till disolved.when disolved pour contents into a 5-gal bucket and fill the bucket the rest of the way with hot water and mix alot.once mixed put the sealable lid on the bucket and wait 24 hours.when you take the lid off it will look like jello.mix it until creamy.after its mixed pour 1/2 of it into another 5-gal bucket.fill the 2 buckets the rest of the way with hot water.and there you go 10 gallons of laundry detergent.its not as thick as store bought but it goes along way.and ive tried it and it works.it calls for 1/2 cup per load but i just use a cap full that comes on a detergent bottle.you can add your own scents to the detergent also.
just to help some people on here.i know its helped our pocket books and i just take that money and stick it on ammo.

I've used this- if it's the same "recipe". My sister gave us some, wife is pretty nitpicky about stuff like that and didn't want to try it. I finally got her to give it a shot and it won her over, we used the whole bucket. I'm glad you posted this, I need to make some more!

How well does this do in HE washers?
There are criminals among us who are both homicidal and incorrigible. Their parents took a shot at civilizing them and failed. Their school teachers took a shot at them and failed. The odds are overwhelming that government welfare programs and penal institutions took a shot at them and failed. If it ever becomes your turn to take a shot at them, don’t fail.

Laundry detergent? What is that? Does it have something to do with that room that my wife goes into in the basement with those strange machines?
I've always wondered what she does in that room.

The color safe stuff from Clorox is called Clorox 2 and is in an all blue bottle.

Re: $6 makes 10 gallons of laundry detergent
My wife is actually getting ready to try this tomorrow. She got all of the supplies in the last few days. I will post up the results of her experiment.

haha I've seen these recipes out there. I am thinking about making up a batch to try but the dry instead of the liquid since storing this stuff is my beef.

Also, you don't have to mix with water if you prefer it to be powder. Just use 1-2 tabl

Re: $6 makes 10 gallons of laundry detergent
Made a batch yesterday since I finally ran out of my other stuff. I just used:
1 cup borax
1 cup washing soap
1 bar of zote grated
1.5 capfuls of the downy scent pellet thingys
I've done 4 loads in it so far and I like it better than the Charlies Soap I had been using. Should last me quite a while. The ValuMarket by me has Zote for .65 a bar. Cheapest I've found anywhere.

Re: $6 makes 10 gallons of laundry detergent
Ever since Shaunna made her first batch, that's what she's been using. We haven't bought detergent in 3 months, just had to whip up a new batch last week. She tried a different method this time and she said it was so much easier than the first time.
