5 c's kit
Using the 5 C's list your choices for a small lightweight kit. Not a one time use disposable kit for a survival situation but a durable kit that would be used frequently while camping hiking.
1. Container (think water)
2. Cutting tool
3. Cordage
4. Combustion
5. Cover
For this kit cover would be better as a jacket or rainsuit than a tent, or maybe a poncho that can do both. . List brand specific items and how you would carry the items. (Pockets, a pack...)
Edit: kit would be for summer, fall weather in ky and should support you on a long hike where an unplanned staying overnight is possible.

Re: 5 c's kit
Cover would be my FrogToggs poncho. That thing has been very resilient. Very light weight. I have a frogtoggs suit as well. Nice to wear that and use the poncho as cover. Also have several large trash bags in the backpack. have used them before to shove pine needles / leaves in and use to sleep on.
Folding saw is the best for cutting. I used to have some of the wire saws that were in our aviation survival vests. Those things rocked, but the commercial ones I have seen are worthless. I have a Wally World (Coleman I think) folding saw i have never tested. A friend has one made by Prios or something and it is pretty dang useful and lightweight. I need to get me a good one. At a minimum is my multitool or Swiss Army knife.
Playtapus 1 liter container is in the car bag but a canteen with a cup is nice for if ya need to heat something up.
550 cord wrapped on stuff. As much as I can manage. A couple bungee cords are nice too.
Lighter and Vaseline soaked cotton balls. And matches. and spark maker of some kind.

Re: 5 c's kit
I have broke all the wire saws I have used. I have also broke the walmart coleman folding saw. Was considering that saw that looks like chainsaw chain.
I do like folding saws though.
We're the frog toggs from walmart? I have seen some frog toggs there before.

Got my FrogToggs from Sportsman;s Guide (had a gift card), but I have seen them at Meijer's and Wally World too.

Re: 5 c's kit
1. Canteen
2. Not quite positive, have to give it some thought.
3. 550 cord
4. Box of matches in a doubled ziplock bag
5. Cover? In summer/fall? Just a ball cap to keep the rain off my glasses. Spend many a night getting soaked at work, no big deal.

Re: 5 c's kit
1. Canteen & a Nalgene bottle
2. Zancudo and gerber hatchet
3. 550 Cord, plus a spool of atwood nano cord
4. UCO stormproof matches, tinder box, striker, magbar, vasoline soaked cotton balls
5. Poncho, and usually (read 99% of the time) a poncho liner
This list is always in my truck in the center console, I have a small daypack in there that is set up as a GHB that it will all fit in if I need to move from the vehicle. Otherwise it is in a snugpak belt pack...

I can get the nano cord in like 2 or 3 colors for around $6 a roll.. each roll is 300ft of cord in a pocket sized spool.. I have used it for emergency stitching on a pack tear, to stitching a button on my shorts and a few other things..
