So I plan to bug in, but I like options so I am making a bug out bike. I plan to camp with it this summer and haul some gear.
As always I'm on a budget so I'll go on and break the price down.

Bike $20, two new tubes $10, new gear and brake cables and housing $20, new front storage rack $10, bike trailer used $15. Everything was from craigslist, yardsale, local bike shop. Total $75

I cut the fabric bottom out of the trailer and made a plywood floor to hold supplies. Holds at least 90lbs (my kids) no problem.

I used the same trailer on my mountain bike to haul my 2 kids with, usually 6 miles a day.
Going up hill with loaded trailer is pretty much not going to happen even if you can leg press 1,000 pounds.

I would add some slime to the tires, or get a repair kit that goes in seat bag. they come with the tools to break down the tire from rim and patching kit. I have heard of guys going with a similar set up to get themselves to their tree stands deep in the woods. if it works for them it should take you off the grid too.

Here is my tool case pic. It's waterproof Plano case from home depot. Soon the 4 Allen wrenches will be replaced with Allen bits for the ratcheting bit driver.
Trying to keep the kit as light and specific as possible so it only has tools for what size bolts are on the bike. I opted for the vice grips over a crescent wrench because they are more flexible.
The only things I still need are a bike pump and a flat kit. I have a spare tire but it won't fit in the plano case so it isn't pictured.
As for a pump I'm thinking about going the co2 rout instead of a hand pump. Or maybe both.
