Vaccinations

Post by Paula » Wed Mar 19, 2014 8:50 am

Has anyone every considered getting vaccinated for Cholera or typhoid? I know in the U.S. we are several generations removed from these diseases, but if we really want to be prepared, these could be a real threat in a prolonged emergency situation.

Are the cholera and typhoid vaccines overseas sticks, or does everyone get them? I was stuck something like 27 times at Benning... I know one of them was Hep B and another was penicillin, but that's about it.

I honestly have no idea; the vaccines that are given to everyone versus locale-specific vaccines change over time--you'd have to check your medical records.

I was in just over 25 years, and I during that time I deployed to some weird places--including some remote areas in the US--so I was vaccinated against just about everything...including plague.

I got the smallpox. Had a scary reaction to it and my arm got stiff and hard to move. I started the anthrax series 4 times before I finally finished all the shots in the correct time frame. My shot records were a mess due to so many deployments. I should dig my records out and see what all I have.
