Post by justang1997 » Tue Mar 11, 2014 11:42 am

I made this dipole using 2 side mirror mounts and 2 4 foot firestiks. Swr on ch 20 is 1.1

Nice job but how do you plan to mount it? Horizontal polarity is actually detrimental on CB.

I initially wanted to do horizontal but I'm thinking vertical with a Pvc mast to get it just above my roof peak

If you mount it horizontally you lose benefit( Aka DB) as the vast majority of CB communication is vertically polarized. If you mount it vertically you need to bring the feed line directly out perpendicular to the antenna for just over 9 feet(a quarter wavelength) or it will blow your radiation pattern.

I'd consider using a single vertical with multiple radials ( or a single counterpoise) coming out from the sides.

I am planning to use the pvc to push the coax out some but it won't be nearly 9 feet.

I am planning work out how it's fed still. It may be possible to get it pretty close to 9 feet out. Probably at least 6.

I purchased a 102 steel whip for my mobile but I'm planning a base antenna using it and radials.

let me know if you need guidance. Antennas are one of my specialties. Next time you see me at roosters, remind me to show you my fishing pole antenna I used to contact Martinique.

I really need to make a roosters meet

Any ideas on making a "strain clamp" or "cable snake". One of those things to keep strain off antenna feed point from pulling on coax.

Never bothered with it. A good soldered PL-259 on quality coax (LMR or CA400 from Copper Electronics) ain't going anywhere.

When is the next Roosters meet? A) I really need to get to one and B) I want to listen in on this discussion.
