But seriously... I don't see a lot of talking about tracking going on here.

Anyone do it regularly? Any pointers or lessons learned or books to read up on?

Old dude backwoods drinking buddy of my dad's used about a 5 or 6 foot staff. He would figure out what ever beast he was tracking and it's step or speed it was traveling mark that distance on this staff and if he ever lost the track he would lay that mark staff on the last piece of sign and fan it 180 or 360 until he picked up sign again real low to the ground. If my memory is right, I am sure I left out about 10 or 15 steps.
