Only thing missing is some double bladed battle axes, some helments with bull horns attached, a pig roasting on a spit and 5 or 6 slave girls handing out mugs full of home brew. The Viking brothers for the win again.

Something you may want to think about is making a "birds nest" to keep your body off the ground, especially when it's really cold out. A lot of body heat is loss because of this, and is a factor in cold weather injuries. Anyway, just a thought to add to your primitive camp site, it looks really good though.

There is about 10 inches of loose leaf down on the ground to insulate some, fallen leaves are just about the only thing we have here right now if it gets bad we will lay sticks down and pile the leaves on top of that.

Looks great.

I like the fire placement too, big rock to reflect the heat back on to you.

Did you guys end up staying the night out there? How was it...?

A friend of mine out JSI's way has a farm with a lot of wooded area... I'm wanting to build something like this. I just need to get with him and find a place that he approves of that won't be in his or anyone elses way. As I'd like to leave it up for as long as he'll let me. I want to take my kids out this summer, and use this in place of a tent.

They've never stayed in anything like this, and I think they'd love it.

And I want a permanent place I can keep building up, and adding to... Fine tuning it every time I go out. It will be my go to spot for all my local outdoor treks. And a cool place to go each weekend to relax, or try the bushcraft challenge... Or even just drink a beer or two.

If and when he gives me the go ahead, I'll document it all the way through with pics.
