The one thing that might have slipped your mind...
To put in your BOB.
A Boy Scout Handbook.
If you have an army field manual, that might be better. But if you have a kid in scouts or just see one at a yard sale or something, I would snatch it up. It's simply written and usually has pictures, so younger people or people unfamiliar with certain things can easily understand it. Plus it offers good advice for what to do in the wilderness. Me and my friend were talking about this one day and we both agreed that it was a good idea, that we overlooked. So I thought maybe others would over look it too.
The books only 480 pages and only like 10 dollars. Plus I'm sure that there are some pages that you could rip out. It's something that simple and easy to have. Just an idea.

You seem to have me confused...
You don't need a black rifle to be cool, but it sure helps.

Me too. And on another note. If the SHTF let's say and you have kids. They aren't going to like what they might have to do. There are games in the book that coincide with survival and that could make their lives easier too.

SAS Survival Guide in mine, too. Along with several US Army & Marine Corps field manuals, including Recon & Intelligence Gathering, along with a good magnifying glass (my eyes aren't what they once were and that print is small).

A manual of any type is a great idea. I don't have one right now, but plan on it. A Boy Scout handbook is just something that could be easily looked over.
Also, if you have a wife/girlfriend send them to nursing school. One because scrubs are hot and two they can help in the wild if people get hurt or are sick.
