in the market for a new floor jack, need recommedations

Post by BK Meyers » Sat Oct 21, 2017 7:05 pm

Needing a new floor jack. My current one is a Sears 3-ton unit. It is over 15 years old and is no longer extending to full height.

Today while doing a tire rotation on our Escape I had to use a 4" spacer block to get it to lift the vehicle. To make it even worse while raising the jack it "lost" resistance on the down stroke of the pump arm and the arm caught me in the nose, resulting in a bit of pain and blood.

The Sears unit has been a good one and has done its job well. Unfortunately I question the quality of Sears products now. I've been tempted to pick up a new jack from Harbor Freight but am unsure of their quality also. Other options are units from Lowes or Rural King. Wanting something that I can physically see and touch before purchase.

Suggestions??

For occasional use, the 3 1/2 ton chinesium low profile jack I have from Harbor Fraud works just fine for me. It's the steel one, not aluminum, so, she's heavy.

Have you tried to add oil to your current one?

Have not tried to do maintenance (on this one).

Had another (same brand and size) that was doing the same thing. No leakage, just the pump was giving up. Tried adding fluid, no luck. Expect this one is the same. 15 years (and probably older) is a pretty good run for a floor jack, so really just looking to replace.
