SBR goes here. Have questions about trusts, gas systems, draco's, etc, ask away.

That's the look I going for. But with the modern rail and optic I figured I go with a modern more comfy stock.

How would a person go about building their own SBR? Could I get the lower and do the paperwork, then order the upper receiver? Or does a gunsmith HAVE to do the work?

Form 1. Google it fill it out. Send.it.in with 200 bucks. Wait 6 months.

I built mine as a pistol and sent in papers. Still waiting. Then will buy a buffer and stock

If you purchase an SBR, it's a transfer just like anything else NFA-restricted. If you don't, you're techincally 'manufacturing' and SBR. It has to be engraved with the name and location of the manufacturer, so you'll either have to engrave it yourself or have someone engrave it.

edit - DOSS beat me by a minute or two.

I may go the same route as you with the pistol build, then convert it to rifle once the paperwork clears.

Doing it as an individual or a trust? If you do it as an individual you have to have to have fingerprints, photos and LE sign off. Either route that go, make sure to send a Certificate of Compliance.

A NFA form that you can download. I didn't send one and ATF mailed me one and said it was required to complete my SBR paperwork.
