GLOCK RONI - Yay or Nay??

SBR goes here. Have questions about trusts, gas systems, draco's, etc, ask away.

GLOCK RONI - Yay or Nay??

Post by RedRocker » Wed Jan 07, 2015 6:22 am

Thinking about getting a Roni, solely as a range toy (I have no real need for this type of weapon). I realize I have to get my SBR stamp, and I have a few questions before i pursue it.

What part would require engraving my name and city/state, would it be the frame of the Glock?
Can you engrave on polymer?
Can I make upgrades to the Glock upper?
Can I still use the Glock in its original pistol configuration? (Ive heard, "once a rifle, always a rifle")
Once I SBR my Glock, are there any other options I can utilize besides a Roni?
Is this just a fad that I will quickly become bored with?

Any pros, cons, or personal opinions are much appreciated. Thanks.

Questions answered in order

The firearm that is made on the form one-nominal is the serial numbered part.
Yes you can , but it is not recommended. Laser can mark plastic but lettering must be .003 " deep at minumu of 1/16 high lettering. Stamping may be a option.
Yes
A handgun can be a rifle and concerted back to a handgun and converted back to a SBR , then a pistol etc. Correct once it is a rifle , it is always a rifle.
No
How the hell would I know, if you don't??

Thanks Cranky for the information, the last question was purely opinion based - Id hate to invest $200 and a 6 month wait for a gimmicky toy that Ill get bored with - I already have a SBR in the AR platform which I enjoy shooting.

I never understood the appeal of these things personally. Get a carbine and at least get some extra barrel length.. A 4" barrel with a shoulder stock just seems kinda...meh...especially considering the need for a tax stamp.

I've came to the conclusion that the 'stamp' is the deal breaker. I can get the Roni for $250, the stamp for $200, and lets say ~$400 for a G22 in decent shape - and wait 6 months, the perceived "wow factor" simply don't add up to $850 imo. Add the fact that I'd practically be married to it also. Thanks for everyone's opinions.

With efiling, your wait would be 1-2 months as of now.

You could utilize other stock/chassis options if you get tired of the Roni.

You can always have the gun removed from the registry.

If you can spend that kind of money on a range toy without it affecting your life/family/budget, go for it and have fun.

If you're going to do it, consider a suppressor for extra fun.

GLOCK RONI - Yay or Nay??

What kind if idiot would go through that for a pistol?? This is a Fab Defense chassis. They make them for Glocks as well. My frame is engraved under the FN logo on the grip. The guy said this was his first 5.7 but had done a bunch of Glocks.

That's super cool. I've never seen these and didn't know they existed. I guess the chassis is a nfa item eh?

Yea. E-filed Dec 3, approved today. Those pics has my Sparrow on the end of it. The barrel doesn't stick out of the chassis.

The chassis isn't the regulated item, the firearm is, although there is the danger of having constructive intent if you possess the items and firearm needed to create an NFA firearm.

Glocks are cheap enough to have a dedicated one to this set up. And get the other two costs over a couple of months if desired.
You can get G22 or 23's for around 350. It doesn't float my boat but to each their own.
