Form 1 can

Post by Niceguy » Thu Jan 14, 2021 12:48 pm

Anyone done one of these? The kits look pretty dummy proof. I'm thinking about getting a rimfire can kit. I REEEEEEEEEALLY miss having one. Apparently most are getting their paperwork back in a month or two instead of a year...

I’ve done several but not recently and not using a kit so I’m not sure how helpful I can be

I've been temped to do it, but still on the fence.
Worried about not liking it when the whole thing is done. But I want one for .223.

For the price, the simplicity of the kits and (most importantly of all) how short the wait is I feel like it is probably worth it. Hell, all you do is drill a few holes in the kit and they have a jig where you can just do it with a drill. They even include the drill bit.

Yep, that's why the rimfire and 5.56 both come in 1/2x28. So you can screw it on an AR and they work faster...

Some better than others. Just like most things, it’s worth it if you invest the money and time. You’ll get better results with clipped baffles rather than just drilling a hole.

I see the 5.56/30 comes with both thread adapters.
Can you just buy and extra set of cups and swap back and forth without needing 2 forms?

Also I think I like that they won't send the kit until you get the form 1 back.
If they sent it right away I might not be able to hold out that long before I start to work on it! LOL

It has to be designated one or the other on the form 1 and inscribed on the tube. You can’t have both adapters because once a round is fired, it is considered completed and a change in configuration would have to go through a flat/SOT07 if I recall correctly. That is, of course, you talk about it in public forums

I was wondering because I was hoping to have one can fits all for what I had but that ain't doable I see.

So it's one can for each caliber then. Right?

How is the quality on something like that? Hate to go through the red tape and it sucks. Seems about the same cost as other cans. What is the advantage besides less wait?

Correct me if I’m wrong but can’t you do a 30 cal can and shoot 5.56 through it? Might not be as effective but would work right?

There’s tons of mounting options that would work. I didn’t look at the kit you were talking about. If it has an end cap and just muzzle devices the have external threads that match you end cap , you could file for a 30cal and use it on a 223

You won’t get nearly as good sound suppression with a 223 through a 30 cal can as if you had one designated for each caliber

That's why I did a .45 can instead of a 9mm. MUCH more versatile. I can put 9 caps on it and I'd be willing to put it up against a 9mm can in not being able to hear a difference. I've seen and heard people using 30 cal cans on 5.56 and it's not a massive difference. And you can't throw your 5.56 can on your .308 even if you put the right end cap on it. Well, I guess you could once...haha
