my first suppressor

Post by 21299 » Tue Dec 16, 2014 9:35 pm

Saturday I bought a white Sparrow ss and Monday during my lunch break got finger printed and the papers signed by cleo and by Monday night had all that stuff back to the place of purchase (with a $200 check) to be sent off. I got started in this process before I really looked into trusts. If I do a trust on my next purchase can I put this first can on it? Thanks in advance.

Yes but you have to pay the $200 to move the item from you to the trust. The Tax for every time the NFA is transferred. You would be transferring from your self to the trust.

I would see if your dealer has mailed the forms yet. If not, form a trust and send the forms in.

If he has mailed them, he can have the transfer cancelled though it may take a good bit of time.

SAVAGE FV SR or Ruger 10/22T. Both work great with my Sparrow. If you want a more modern style rifle, an AR15 with a .22 conversion or a dedicated upper work very well, but will need a .200" spacer because the thread depth on ARs is .600", & almost every .22 can in existance is designed for a thread depth of .400".

I second Wyld on the FVSR. I bought one for my sparrow, and love it sincerely. My nephew who had never shot a gun in his life put 2 10 rd mags into the 10 ring with a Nikon P-rimfire set on 2 magnification at 25 yards. Last time I knocked around in my back yard at 50 yards on 2 magnification, I put 30 rounds in a 1 inch hole through a 15-20 MPH wind. Excellent platform.

I also have a S&W 15-22, and did have to use the spacer. Not a big deal just make sure you buy one from a reputable company so you have some confidence it will shoulder squarely (and you don't use crush washers with these of course LOL). Though not as accurate as the Savage, it shoots acceptable groups. Other than the suppressor it's still bone stock. I have some upgrades for it to see if I can tighten it up even more. I have had no problems with any of the ammo below cycling the action with or without the suppressor.

I primarily use Norma Tac-22, since I have more of it than anything else, and it seems to keep the Sparrow cleaner than the others. I have also used CCI standard, Aguila Super Express Standard, Aguila Sub, Federal and others. Funny thing, I liked the Aguila sub less than the others. It seemed to keyhole at too much distance.

Ruger has a number of 10/22 rifles now with the threaded barrel option.

Been waiting since 12/16/14 and I finally brought it home tonight. The stamp actually had 04/30/15 written on it.

I picked up a ruger American threaded. It's a great host and uses 10/22 mags which I happen to have a few of.
