http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2016 ... -triggers/In another instance of the firearms industry feeding on it’s own, it appears that Mossberg is exercising it’s control on the original Chip McCormick patent (US 7,293,385 B2), that it acquired a while ago, and bringing lawsuits against a number of manufacturers of drop in triggers.
Mossberg currently licenses the design to the new CMC company, who has apparently decided to get Mossberg to go after their competition, i.e. anyone making drop in triggers.
A list of some of the companies that are currently named in the lawsuit(s) are:
Black Rain (whose excellent lightweight 3-Gun rifle I just reviewed)
DOA Arms
Tactical Fire Control
Battle Tested Equipment
Patriot Ordnance Factory
RISE Armaments (whose triggers I swear by)
T Vehr Manufacturing
Elftmann Gun Products

Mossberg Suing Manufacturers of Drop-In Triggers
There are criminals among us who are both homicidal and incorrigible. Their parents took a shot at civilizing them and failed. Their school teachers took a shot at them and failed. The odds are overwhelming that government welfare programs and penal institutions took a shot at them and failed. If it ever becomes your turn to take a shot at them, don’t fail.

I completely understand why the lawsuit is happening and agree with their statements from both Mossberg and CMC. If you had a patent for something and another person was copying it, you want want the royalties for your hard work.

I agree, i remember whent they came out and they actually seemed cheesy compared to the old 2 stage triggers, they had narrower hammers and they really had to forge the market.Bama wrote:I completely understand why the lawsuit is happening and agree with their statements from both Mossberg and CMC. Im a bit concerned about the timing , i mean why wait this long to bring the suit? At this point its such a common design and millions have been sold, what could happen now?
Re: Mossberg Suing Manufacturers of Drop-In Triggers
One of 2 reasons for the suit. Either a C&D letter went out that didn't work and they are now suing for them to stop, or they are suing for the royalties that are owed. It is Mossberg, they may just be slow.

My only Mossbergs are a 35 year old Model 500 I bought at Target, new for $150, and a 930 I bought from a member here.

Re: Mossberg Suing Manufacturers of Drop-In Triggers
Will they pay back all the people paying them royalties to make a self contained trigger unit? I believe I read somewhere that Wilson Combat was paying such a royalty. I imagine others have been, as well.
