“When I teach a defense class, the point of the class is to kill someone. If you’re a trans woman, the person you’re killing is likely to be someone society values more than you . . . If I as a trans woman ever shoot a right-wing fascist, the law is almost definitely not going to be on our side.” Kayla Harris quoted in The Trans Women Turning to Firearms for Survival, sub-headed More trans women are taking up arms than before to protect themselves. The impacts of climate change are among the environmental challenges facing Iran that helped spark protests in dozens of cities across the Islamic republic.

At least 20 people have died in the uprising, driven by the sudden collapse of financial institutions, low wages and mistrust of national leaders. Rising temperatures are seen by some experts as an underlying condition for the economic hardships that led to the unrest.

[Barbara Slavin, director of the Future of Iran Initiative at the Atlantic Council] said the role of climate change on the protests is “massive” and underreported by the media. The protests have largely sprung from provincial cities that climate refugees now call home, instead of the capital, Tehran. Those areas have traditionally been more conservative and less willing to speak out against the ayatollahs, she said.

Well now, that didn't go well.......for them
A Democrat-backed study meant to expose illicit online gun sales instead seemed to show the opposite -- with hardly any sellers taking the bait when undercover investigators tried to set up dozens of illegal firearm transactions.

Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., as well as Sens. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., and Brian Schatz, D-Hawaii, had commissioned the Government Accountability Office report to look into how online private dealers might be selling guns to people not allowed to have them.

Their efforts were based on a 2016 report from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), which claimed that “anonymity of the internet makes it an ideal means for prohibited individuals to obtain illegal firearms.”
But the GAO revealed that their 72 attempts outside of the dark web were all “unsuccessful.”
