LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A reckless driver leads police to multiple stolen guns.
Police initially found marijuana and pills inside Adam Barr's car, but they quickly realized drugs were the least of their worries.
It was two St. Matthews police detectives that noticed Barr driving erratically on Shelbyville Road. At one point, Detective Tony Ford says he watched the 31-year-old take a drink from a beer bottle while behind the wheel.
"He continued along at a high rate of speed and by the time we caught up to him, after several incidents where he almost hit some other cars, we were at Dixie Highway," said Ford.
They were able to get the car stopped, and from just glancing inside, they knew this could be trouble.
"We started finding ammunition and magazines and assorted things to do with weaponry," said Ford.
Ford said Barr mentioned there were no guns in the car. They obtained a search warrant to see for themselves.
"The vehicle yielded a semi-automatic glock, that was concealed under the carpet, as well as the other weapons," said Ford.
Detectives discovered three AK-47s. "A check of a history of those guns immediately revealed that they were stolen," said Ford.
Ford says he's not sure what Barr's plan was, but he believes it may be drug driven.
"I really think that not only probably did we save him from hurting himself either accidentally or on purpose, but we probably saved some innocent people too just by getting him stopped," said Ford.
There was also a 17-year-old girl in the car. She was cited at the scene.
WAVE 3 spoke briefly with the suspect's grandfather who says "He's getting what's due."
Barr remains at Metro Corrections awaiting his next court appearance.
Barr is charged with:
Receiving Stolen Property (5 counts)
Convicted Felon in Possession of a Handgun
Possession of Marijuana
Reckless driving
Theft by Unlawful Taking
Unlawful Transaction with Minor
Possession Open Alcohol Beverage Container in a Motor Vehicle

There are criminals among us who are both homicidal and incorrigible. Their parents took a shot at civilizing them and failed. Their school teachers took a shot at them and failed. The odds are overwhelming that government welfare programs and penal institutions took a shot at them and failed. If it ever becomes your turn to take a shot at them, don’t fail.

famous police tactics as seen on tv often. First you spot a criminal and then pursue him at a high rate of speed for many many miles endangering everyone around you and then either let him crash into a car full of kids or you let the danger go on for miles and then ram your squad car paid for by taxes into it and smash it all up when you could have done that 32 miles ago and put less people in danger!Ar-Rob wrote:So they spotted him on Shelbyville rd but they didn't get the car stopped until Dixie hwy?
