In case you hadn’t heard, a man with a handgun went on a shooting spree in Toronto Sunday night, reportedly shooting pedestrians at random before opening fire on crowded restaurants, killing two and injuring 13.

Christine Estima, a Toronto-based novelist and writer who claims to have bylines at VICE, The New York Daily News, and the CBC, offered up this hot take Monday morning:
We need to put a ban on white men until we can figure out what’s going on. We’re going to build a wall around them, and get Gavin McInnes to pay for it.#TorontoStrong #TorontoShooting #ToxicMasculinity

The #ToxicMasculinity hashtag would have sufficed, but there was more:
Tax white men higher and use the extra funds to pay for social services and community initiatives.

— Christine Estima (@christineestima) July 23, 2018
That’s one hot take: because of a mass shooting, ban white men, then tax them higher to pay for social services.

The take only gets hotter, because police have now identified the gunman as Faisal Hussain, 29.
BREAKING NEWS: SIU identifies Danforth shooting suspect, now deceased, as Faisal Hussain of Toronto. Hussein’s family says he had “severe mental health challenges, struggling with psychosis and depression his entire life.“

Socialize or else
A proposal introduced Tuesday to ban employee cafeterias in future San Francisco office buildings represents more than an effort to boost the city’s restaurant scene, backers say.

“People will have to go out and (eat) lunch with the rest of us,” Aaron Peskin, a San Francisco supervisor who co-sponsored the proposal, told The San Francisco Examiner.

“This is also about a cultural shift,” Supervisor Ahsha Safai, who proposed the ban, told The San Francisco Chronicle. “We don’t want employees biking or driving into their office, staying there all day long and going home. This is about getting people out of their office, interacting with the community and adding to the vibrancy of the community.”

But some employees at San Francisco tech giants targeted by the proposal need free or reduced-cost meals typically offered at the cafeterias, Sam Schneidman, who works in San Francisco, told KNTV.

“A lot of people who rely on the benefit aren’t necessarily highly compensated engineers and it’s something that a lot of tech workers depend on,” Schneidman told the station.

Stupid. So now your lunch will be spent leaving work, walking or driving to the restaurant, ordering your food to go and heading back to work.

Fuck those idiots.

Like I've said before, they're not even trying to hide it anymore
In years past, such bans would have occasioned serious debate in addition to heartfelt theatrics. But with the exception of Councilmember Randy Rowse — who supported banning Styrofoam but not straws — the vote was unanimous. For the majority of the council, the only question was how best to wordsmith the ordinance language to tighten the exemptions. Rowse sought to draw a softer regulatory line but got nowhere for his efforts. “Let’s invite people to care about the environment like [people] do,” he said. “They’ll exceed your expectations every time.” People should be given the opportunity to display “good behavior,” he said, before the council resorted to Plan B: “You better do the right thing, or we’re going to come after you.”

Councilmember Jason Dominguez countered that “we can’t always count on common sense,” adding, “We have to regulate every aspect of people’s lives.”
Let that sink in for a moment

The wonders of living in a socialist paradise
CARACAS (Reuters) - Venezuela will remove five zeroes from the bolivar currency rather than the three zeroes originally planned, President Nicolas Maduro said on Wednesday, in an effort to keep up with inflation projected to reach 1 million percent this year. The OPEC nation’s economy has been steadily collapsing since the 2014 crash of oil prices left it unable to maintain its socialist economic system that for years provided lavish subsidies while enforcing strict price controls.

Annual inflation in June topped 46,000 percent, according to the opposition-run Congress. The IMF said this week it could hit seven digits this year, putting it on par with the crises of Zimbabwe in the 2000s and Germany in the 1920s.

“The monetary reconversion will start on Aug. 20,” Maduro said in a televised broadcast, showing new bills that are to be released next month.

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - July is National Ice Cream Month, and what better way to celebrate than with a giant scoop of mayonnaise ice cream?

An ice cream shop in Scotland has come up with the unusual concoction, and the internet just can't with this.

Just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should. ????‍?? #mayoicecream

The unusual flavor was developed at ICE, a scoop shop in Falkirk, Scotland. The shop also sells a flavor called Monster Energy, if that's more your speed.

So far, there's no indication that mayonnaise ice cream will be available here in the U.S. And maybe that's a good thing.

In 2016, John Kuligowski, a convicted felon, sent his girlfriend into a Cabela’s store in Newark, Delaware to purchase a .40 caliber handgun that he was legally prohibited from owning. Kuligowski then traded the pistol for another handgun, and the .40 was later used to murder Keshall “Keke” Anderson as she walked along a Wilmington, Delaware street on September 19, 2016.

Anderson’s accused killers are facing a second murder trial in the shooting. Kuligowski was sentenced to 27 months for illegal possession of a firearm.

Now, the Brady Campaign and Anderson’s family are suing Cabela’s for selling the gun that killed Keshall.
