SIG sues ATF

Post by ChopperDoc » Thu Apr 10, 2014 4:49 pm

NEWINGTON — Gun maker Sig Sauer has filed a civil suit against the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives claiming the federal agency wrongfully classified a “muzzle brake” Sig designed to reduce recoil, as an item “intended only for use” when making a silencer.

Sig claims that gun silencers are “subject to burdensome legal requirements” and by calling its muzzle brake a part for a silencer, the federal agency is subjecting it to “economic injury.”

It has baffles like a suppressor, but it's open all along the sides.

This article states that sig says you could buy a shroud for the break on a form 4 that would slide over the break and make it a suppressor. If that's true then that could possibly be what started this

I'm surprised you guys haven't heard about this gun. It's great. I've heard the shroud can be sent to you for free once you show sig a tax stamp. I have also heard the pistol version will be upgraded to rifle stock for free once you show sig an sbr tax stamp.

Um yah... I can see where this could be a problem with the alphabet guys. Bubba would be trying to find a shroud with no form 4

If someone wanted an unregistered illegal suppressor, it can easily be done, that is if they wanted to spend 10+ years in a concrete and metal room.
The Sig suppressor doesn't even look like it would silence a fart.

I'm with Todd on this one. Hope the Sig armbrace doesn't all the sudden get "reclassified".
