anybody into CB's?
I used to be...always had one on the work car and the Jeeps. There used to be a CB shop in Hikes Point and the guy worked on them; I had a small midland that he tuned and peaked. My last car had a Uniden 510xl in it with a magnet mount MaxRad antennae on the center of the trunk that worked pretty good- I got several miles out of it.
I still have the Uniden and want to get it up and running in the Yukon. That one will do me for now- I'm not sure what antennae setup I want to run on it, though. I still have a couple of the MaxRads, so I could use one (or two) of those, plus I have a brand new 102" whip that was going to go on the XJ that died. If I used that, it would go on the end of the bumper...
any ideas?

I have always had one in my rigs for talking between vehicles. Never used much more then that.
Did have a nice peaked and tuned cobra in my last rig.

The whip is still king if yoy get it grounded right & tuned . Other than that I'd look @ the wilson line of antennas . Like a wilson 1000 or something .
These guys are in Louisville http://www.copper.com/cart/
I have a trc 503 with a trunk mounted wilson 1000 . I need to ground it better but it has saved me from sitting in traffic more than once .

I ran 102 inch fiberglass whip on my trunk mount for years, Cobra 148 and a Palomar TX300 Last base I ran was a Clemons modified Cobra 2000, Silver Eagle and a Phantom 500. I have my FILs Cobra 142 with an electronic slider and a Palomar 300A. I believe that there is a Palomar TX75 amp around somewhere

I have an emperor ts-5010 that won't transmit anymore. I wish I knew a place that can trouble shoot to a component level because prob won't get complete assy for what's blown.

Re: anybody into CB's?
Ok, since I found a small hotbed of CB guys... I have an inquiry.
I have a Chrysler 300C that I'd like to have a CB in. I don't want a hard mounted dash unit like what you typically see in pickups. I'd like to have something that I could soft mount (non-permanent mods) to the side of the center console and power it through the cigarette lighter. An antennae on the trunk wouldn't bother me, that could be ran through the cabin and hidden. Is there anything/anyone in the area that knows about or carries something like this? My idea is to keep the power wire, mic, and antennae wire in the center console or next to the drivers seat. Then when I want the CB on, I can holster it in a cradle and plug everything up in a few seconds.

Well you could velcro it to the side of the console . i use this in my passenger floor well http://www.copper.com/cart/Radios/CB-Ra ... Hide-a-Way you could also go with something like this all in one .
. Almost all cbs have external speaker outlets & i have a small one mounted on my dash next to my radar detector . There are all kinds of mounting choices / brackets . Look thru the link i posted above ^ . - Eireguy

When I was driving for a living I picked up a Galaxy radio from Bells and they set me up quite nicely. Glad to see they are still around 20+ years later.Eireguy wrote:http://www.bellscb.com/ this shop is one of the most respected around . When I bought the GMC I was looking at trucks so I could mount a CB again. With my daily drive they come in handy. I really do need to get one.

Re: anybody into CB's?
got my cb installed with my Maxrad antenna magnet mount on the roof. I'm not happy with my ground, so that's gotta get changed... doesn't seem to be picking up as much as it should- I'm 1/2 mile from 265 and 64, I should be hearing a LOT of chatter on 19 in sitting in my driveway!
I asked for a radio check today while on 265 at the 64 exit and got a reply, but it was from a driver I could see....
hmmmm....I might just put that 102" whip on the back of the bumper after all.

Re: anybody into CB's?
No- I don't have access to an SWR meter anymore...however, I did put another of my Maxrads on there, and it's a world of difference. The first one had been on the crown-Vic for a few years, and was missing the ball tip. I put this new one on and I am getting a lot better signal; even had to turn the squelch up.Eireguy wrote:Kokopelli did you tune your antenna ? Yeah I'd say put up that whip if you can . That will get out alot further than a magnet mount .
This will work temporarily. As soon as it's warm enough outside to do anything, I'll mount the whip and run my cables under the trim panels...

Re: anybody into CB's?
You can pick them up @ a Loves or Pilot truck stop . radio shack may still carry them but I'm not sure since its not cell phone related and that seems to be there bread and butter now

Cobra wx 75. The whole radio is contained in the handmike portion. Gave mine to a buddy who uses it in his Miata.Jakob wrote:Ok, since I found a small hotbed of CB guys... I have an inquiry.

I have a bearcat 980ssb also. Run I with either a 102 whip on the bumper or a 4 foot firestick. Cobra hand held in the cargo box.
