My vodka of preference is Rain. Next in line to that is the Costco Vodka and if I have to pick a type out at a restaurant I will usually pick Grey Goose.

I 98% of the time drink vodka and chambord up, no garnish.

Next is wines...

I drink cheap wine on a daily basis. Usually the cheapest I can find either in box or bottle form.

But I do appreciate better ones... Cabs, Old Vine Zin's, Chardonnay, and I LOVE a good stout Bordeaux.

But August is a no alcohol month so I will drool

Do we have a drink thread?

Post by ssracer » Wed Aug 01, 2012 1:25 pm

My drink of choice is alcohol...I don't mind most of its forms.

My usual intake falls into two categories:
On the cheap and drinking a lot it's PBR or cheap bourbon and coke.
If I'm living large and taking my time it's Guinness or other higher end beer or good bourbon neat.

I like all the clearish alcohols, absolute, hendricks, casadores, bacardi.

I rank alcohols by the level of hangover I get LOL

The key is to keep the alcohol level constant so you don't experience the hangover. Its a fine line between too much and too little, but with practice you'll get it.

Like any other training, its all about working up to it.

Resurrection.

Drinking a beer from wife's uncle's brewery. He passes cases of shorts to me from time to time. Don't drink a whole lot of beer so its enough for me, and its good stuff.

Talking to a member here tonight about whisky, I like bourbon a lot. A LOT. My usual picks are Bulleit, Elijah Craig and Beam when its time for mass consumption.

I'm no expert on it though, I'm trying to learn more about it but at the same time I'm also trying to curb my intake. Whisky drinking was getting to a point where it was causing some concern. I'm not giving it up, but I'm trying to lean more towards moderation. In this, I'm trying to enjoy the spirits more for what they are, and not so much for what they can do haha.

When I was down south a few weeks ago I bought a few bottles that aren't available here. My new favorite is Bookers. Good stuff, I wish I had brought more home with me. I drank a bit of this while I was there, but it was damned expensive. 30 bucks for a double is pricey if you ask me. The whole bottle in a liquor store there was 60, but I guess the bars have to make their money too.

Image

I just uncorked this bottle of Blanton's tonight. Has a nice flavor that is almost sweet, followed by a little heat. Not like the Bookers, heat is coming off the glass before you drink.

Image

I'm interested in learning more about the small batch distilleries, and the craft of making a quality whisky. Any suggestions on what members here think is a good one are appreciated.

I find my tastes change with time and trying different things. For example, I tried some Makers Mark the other night and usually I like it, but for some reason it was just bitter. I like my bourbon with a few ice cubes sitting for a few minutes.

Image

This is one of my all time favorites and recommended by many. Plus it's pretty cheap at about $26-$30 a bottle.

Blantons is my favorite but kinda of costly. Four Roses Single was my daily drinker until I recently discovered Eagle Rare. That's a 50 dollar whiskey in a 30 dollar bottle. Almost as sweet as the Blantons with a softer finish. Well worth trying!!!

I picked up a couple new bottles last week to try. Two bottles of Bookers I found (just to keep in reserve), a bottle of Blanton's Gold Edition, and one of Rock Hill Farms Single Barrel. Haven't cracked either open yet, waiting til I get home to sample them.

Crappy cell pic of my shop "bar": if I keep it in the house the wife will use it for cooking. She don't know the difference, its just whisky to her.

The bar in the house doesn't usually have much I'm interested in. Lots of rum and liqueurs, Kahlua and tequila (which I do like) and Irish whiskies that I can't stand. And a bottle of boat gas rum from Thailand that gets brought out on a dare from time to time.

You guys are too fancy for me. My needs are pretty basic.

I like tequila Casadores, which I just drink one ounce at a time. Lol
