Deer Season 2023

Post by Toddstang » Sat Nov 04, 2023 4:53 pm

Didn't get to go out earlier for bow or muzzle loading season mainly due to it being too warm for me.
Getting ready for opening day of gun season today.
Dumped my usual mix of corn and pellets (equivalent of baiting a fishing hook to those non- hunters or traditional snobs) and hung the Tinks #69 out.
Biggest chore was raking about a 300 yard long trail of leaves and sticks (because walking on them on your way to the blind at 4am creates about the equivalent of noise of a 747 taking off)
Threw the heater and bottled waters in the blind so now it's hurry up and wait for 3am November 11th!

I noticed rubs and scrapes the 2nd week of October.
It seems that the rut is on in Hart County.
I'm thinking that I might have to set up in my storage shed Saturday :)

So far on camera I’ve seen an 11, 8, 7, 5,4,3 & spike & lots of does. Probably won’t see any next week. Forecast is for cool, dry unlike last years wet snow.

I'm too much of a pussy to hunt. I just want a trail cam that shoots a deer then calls a butcher to pick it up and tells me when its ready.

The rut is on.....lots of trail cam activity. Big boys are at night still and a few just before sun rise. Mock scrape is getting lots of hits. Been out bow hunting a few times but nothing worth shooting.....except a coyote.....missed him at 35 yds by about an inch. Ill be out thursday/friday for bow again and then saturday and maybe monday for gun

Safe and snug 10' above ground.
Currently 72° in my blind.
May have to shut the heater off.

Had 4 come thru about 9:15. Front 3 were definitely slick heads. Passed on the 1st trying to get a look at the 4th to see if it was a buck chasing the does. Never got a good look at the head.

Seen more deer in one day than I've ever seen before. I let a bunch walk, mostly 2 years or younger. I had one huge buck stay in the brush and then walked over the hill and 5 minutes later I hear "BAM!"
Well, I figured the next big body buck to come through would be mine. Finally at 1pm, right when I finished my frozen PB&J, this guy walks literally 25 feet in front of my blind and doesn't slow down. Luckily I got a heart shot on the run. He was like a fire-hose squirting blood out like 6 feet!!!!
Dropped dead after 15 yards.
