Looking for a lightweight tent I could carry on a hiking trip if need be to only shelter myself and gear but I like options so a two person that is comparable in weight to a tiny one person is preferred at this point in case someone was with me and no shelter (emergency). I want something to last and being a bit more rain/water resistant is high on the list as well. Top priorities I would say are as above, weight/size/durability/simplicity (not a million parts). Price isn't the main concern but not looking for this to be an every weekend thing and extremely optioned out where I would be paying extra for wasteful upgrades I wouldn't use. Occasional hiking trips and emergency use are the main uses in mind. I'll take any advice and thoughts to help me think of things I might not be thinking of also links or product names specifically for me to see online for an idea which models fit the bill.

I actually went with a cheap one from Walmart before my canoe trip. Fit me and my gear fine and held up under one hell of a thunderstorm the first night. I eventually want one a little bigger with a vestibule area, but for something that isn't going to be used that often and about $30 it ain't bad.

I like the snugpak 1 and 2 person tents. A little on the expensive end but they hold up well..

I have a Eureka Zeus (which I think I think might have been discontinued) but it's a 3 person tent. I bought it because the 2 person tents were way to snug for my comfort level. For emergencies...yeah ok. But for backpacking...no thanks. So my advice is if you're not terribly concerned about weight, get a little bigger tent than what it recommends. My tent weighs 3.5 lbs. between 2 guys, not a big deal for the extra room.

Hennessy Hammock - lighter weight than a tent by far and much more comfortable than sleeping on the ground.

Hard to beat a regular old tarp, you have lots of options how you set it up, you can use it to cover yourself like a poncho , you can haul stuff it, you can drag it without much damage, use it to collect rain water, great ground cover, they wash out easy as heck, you can get them all over, they are cheap as hell, so many size options, ya I dont think you can really beat a tarp.

for light weight and strength, I don't think there is anything made, for any money, better than Hilleberg tents.
