any one have any advice converting from gas to charcoal. Dad gave me his older grill and I like cooking on coals better than gas. I know I need to remove the burners, hoses, and tank. guess I ought to figure out some sort of tray for the coals to sit on. not sure on how to catch the ashes right now either.

I just took out everything that seemed flammable in ours and threw in charcoal.
Used it for 10 years until the bottom rusted through.
Using an gas infra red now.

Gut it, buy a cut to fit grate for charcoal, put metal bucket under to catch ash. And GO! Down and dirty BBQ with charcoal. Did this about 10 years ago to my old weber, unfortunately the bottom will burn out in a year or so.

Already got a chimney. My Sears Webber knock off's legs are about rusted thru. The old grill would be great if the legs were secure. Wondering if an old cooking sheet underneath the grate with the charcoal would suffice as an ash catcher.
