Is your garden in by Derby Day?

Post by KYgundude » Sat May 04, 2013 5:39 pm

Got mine a good bit done yesterday. Some grape tomatoes, regular tomatoes, bell peppers, zucchini, basil, thyme and Italian oregano. Going to add eggplant, bush beans and garlic chives.

How about yours?

I ain't gonna make it. Soil is in great shape but to damn wet and to damn cold.

Usually we have ours done by Derby weekend, but the weather has us a little behind this year.

I set out about 30 tomato plants (various kinds), about 12+ bell peppers and a couple rows of squash and cucumbers.

^Pic of garden last week before I started planting....

After all the rain today, there's no telling when I'll be able to finish up....guess it's suppose to rain all the way thru Wednesday....

Last year at this time I had tomatos starting to show up on my plants in pots that I started indoors in February.

This year I barely have some sprouting plants.

Checked on the garden today.....we had strong winds and hard rain and I was worried some of the plants would be broke over, but all was well.

Counted and so far I have 44 tomato plants in.....16 pepper plants (all green peppers so far) and 2 rows each of squash and cucumbers.

We started alot more plants inside this year than we normally do. Have alot more plants ready, just didn't get then in yet......rest will be started by seed in the garden once it dries up.

Sweet corn will be planted in a different plot.

No garden for us this year. Neither of us is in any shape to go digging in the yard just to have it all destroyed by the goddamned squirrels, so we opted to forego a garden this summer.

Does a sharp hoe cost more?
Sure more than a dull hoe
But easier to turn trick
