Sighting in my red dot

Post by KYgundude » Sun Dec 16, 2012 2:28 pm

I put a bore laser in my rifle and could see the dot on the target but when I look through my PA Microdot I can't see it. The scope was off so it wasn't that the two dots were perfectly lined up. When I look at extremely close range ( like 15 feet ) I can see it but downrange, NOPE.

you have to make sure the laser is straight first before you line it up with your red dot

turn your boresighter a 1/4 turn and make sure it stays in the same spot each time, once you get all the way around with it, THEN you can line it up. Put your gun in something that will not move and aim it at a wall, then turn the laser a 1/4 turn and see what it does. If you can't adjust the laser, its junk and you can't move forward. This should be done at 10m typically using Army standards, then zeroing at 25m or whatever distance you see fit.

Everyone is missing my point I think. When you look through the scope the lasers dot is not visible. This is not an alignment thing you simply cannot see it.

I have had the same problem with my micro and.a bore laser....put up a paper target and put the gun.on bags so it wont move. Put the laser on bullseye and (while making.sure you dont.move the gun) then you can zero the optic on the bullseye. Keep a check by lifting yourhead and making sure the gun and laser havent moved

you can see the laser with the naked eye, then once you look through the red dot the laser dissapears?

Could it be the lens on the red dot? If its cowitnessed a line it to your irons and call it good.

Exactly! My AR's, I remove the flash hider and insert bore tube.
I never had any luck with bore sight lasers even getting on paper, even with my bolt rifles.

This is basically what I ended up doing. Removed the dot, inserted the bore laser, zeroed the irons, removed laser, put red dot on and zeroed to my irons. It's putting rounds within and around a few inches of the bull. Considering I'm a crappy shot(true story) and can barely see my target at 25 yards without mother natures lightning, I'm calling it a win.

Love the dot. Love the AR. Love my TG&G all you can shoot membership. All is good. Just in time for Obama to take it away.

I know this is an old post, and this may sound crazy but with the marine corps I know every time we laser bore sight (LBS) our weapons (mostly for our night sights( PEQ15/16)) we first check and make sure the bore sight is sighted in. At 10m we place the LBS in the bore turn it and see where the impact of the laser is and we mark it we then turn it 1/4 clock wise and mark that spot if there is a difference then we split the it we do this till we can turn the LBS in a 360 and it dose not move. you also have to think your sight is appx. 2 inches higher then the bore of the weapon so you have to adjusts for that as well
