Trying to decide on a scope...

Post by awesomePOSSUM » Thu Nov 29, 2012 7:23 pm

I've been looking for a scope to put on the Savage 11/111 that I will be receiving soon. It is calibered in 308. I have looked at the Millett LRS-1 and I looked today at a Konus Pro. I don't know anything about the Konus, but it was within my price range and what I wanted. I also looked at some Nikons that seemed pretty good. I'm not looking for a very expensive scope, as my very max would be close to $500. I would hope to spend less than that. I would like to get one that is something like 6-24x50 so I can shoot as far or as close as I would want. I have read the reviews and with all of them it seems that some people love what they got while others didn't at all.

So does anyone have some good advice on a scope that is high quality, stay on zero fairly well, and won't get hazy due to high magnification? Thoughts on it.

Buschnell Elite series and Nikkon are going to be the best for your money in that range.
Weaver I hear is GTG but no experience with one.
SWFA SS scopes are good but the variable power ones are over your price range. (fixed 10x isn't)

I have a Falcon Menace 4-14x that I like but will be replacing as soon as I can afford to.
It has been nothing but reliable thus far, the objective lens is a bit small though.

I saw those SWFA scopes and I wish they weren't just a 10x zoom. But I will definitely give the Bushnell Elite a look at. I haven't looked at them. There's so many options its kind of overwhelming.

Just got a Nikon M-308 to put on my AR-10 II, got it for $475 @ GrabAGun.com, I'd suggest taking a close look at them, mine is very, very nice.

I have two Bushnell Elites a 3200 3X9 and a 4200 4X16 and I have no complaints. The 4200 is as clear as all I have looked thru and some were a lot more monies than it.

I'll have to look pretty hard at Nikon. I don't think I've read a bad review on them yet. You get what you pay for and I like to buy things once and be done.

Another vote for the Bushnell Elite. I have a 4200 and am very happy with it.

I have a Nikon on the 7mm Rem Mag. Nice scope for sure.

Have a couple of the Vortex Optics that I am really happy with too. Vortex has a wide range of stuff.

Have this one on my 308. Nice and right in your price range with MSRP. I am sure you could find it cheaper somewhere.
