Monstrum 3X Prism

Post by KYgundude » Sun Nov 20, 2022 2:38 pm

Anyone mess with these? Just arrived. Heavy as hell. Internal optics are clean. Beautiful etched dot and circle. Lights up nice. I'm just going to use it on a 22 so it's not going to get a super torture test. Looks badass for sure. Was 109 bucks.

I have not, but I love fixed 3x and 4x power optics so I'll definitely be interested in hearing how you like it. I have multiple fixed 4x BSA scopes on different rifles. Very few illuminated dots because my dominant eye has astigmatism and doesn't do well with them. I just recently got my 1st pair of glasses so I need to see if it helps clear up the illuminated dots.

From my understanding, prism scopes with their etched optics are better than red dots for astig. I have some myself.

Yep yep. Red dots cause astigmatism trouble because they are a projected dot. A Prism scope isn't a red dot. It's a long tubular scope, shortened by 2 prisms. The reticule is etched into the glass like crosshairs are on a conventional scope. The reticule is powered but when the power is off it's still there. Good for battery fail. Here's the best pics I can get of the reticule of this thing. It will also do red. Adjustable brightness. The one with the power off is a bit of a fuzzy picture. It's a crisp black etching.

What I don't know about this scope its durability. This guys below sure seems to beat on it and soak it and it holds up but only a true test will know. It's on my 10/22. I'm leaving my PA Prism on the AR

That's some damn good info! I'll definitely check that out then. I like the size of it also. It would probably look a little more fitting on this than what's currently on it. Image

My astigmatism causes a sunburst effect to a red dot.

I was looking at the Vortex Spitfire because of astigmatism but may have to look at this one.

I can't imagine this being vortex quality but it's solid. Again seems quite heavy. 17 ounces.

There are criminals among us who are both homicidal and incorrigible. Their parents took a shot at civilizing them and failed. Their school teachers took a shot at them and failed. The odds are overwhelming that government welfare programs and penal institutions took a shot at them and failed. If it ever becomes your turn to take a shot at them, don’t fail.

UPDATE: Got the shoot this today. Worked beautifully. I can shoot 3" patterns at 25 yards with it. For me, my shitty eyes, and poor shooting, that's excellent. the optics are crystal clear. When the green color is used, I can still see the black etching of the reticule but it's in no way an issue. On red you don't see the black at all. I'm pleased. Let's see if it lasts. Maybe after a bit I will move it to something bigger than .22 to give it a recoil test.
