Re: SCAR16 optic
That would be sweet! Definitely lighter than it looks. Looks like it would weigh as a M1A or Garand but really don't feel any different than my AR's, hell it's lighter than the 18" AA whore AR going around the site...haha

Re: SCAR16 optic
that whore is all torn apart right now lol
getting a different upper and lower on it.
AA is replacing the upper that cracked wile trying to remove the barrel nut someone put on with the hands of thor.
Ended up cutting the barrel nut off.

Re: SCAR16 optic
Depends.
What do you want it to do?
A good 1x4 with an illuminated dot, like the Burris MTAC can be good for a 5.56mm carbine.

If those are your only two options for now, if it were me, I would prefer the EOTECH. I am not a fan of fixed magnification optics on a rifle like this, just a personal preference.

Acogs are 90s tech. They still work as intended though. Check out Browe optics for new tech. I have a Leupold setup on mine. Patrol VXR. There are pictures around this site of it somewhere. Works well for both close up and magnification.

Re: SCAR16 optic
Agreed, while the ACOG is still a good quality optic , its hardly cutting edge or even competitive with modern sights. The Browe is about the same but with some LED , there sport optic is cool as hell as you charge it by sunlight or a tactical light and it glows like 8 hourse , but still a 4x optic.shelbygoat wrote:Acogs are 90s tech. Re: SCAR16 optic
Asking which is better, EOTech or ACOG, is like asking whether a 10" .300BLK or 20" .308 is better. They perform very different jobs. Personally I'm a big fan of the ACOG on general use rifles, but it's very limited in dynamic short range environments. It certainly wouldn't make a good home defense optic.
According to individuals that used them in Afghanistan, the ELCAN SpecterDR is a great concept that just wasn't executed well... at least not well enough to justify the cost. Reportedly the point of impact shift is large enough from 1x to 4x that some individuals zeroed their SpecterDRs at 4x and mounted 1x offset red dots to use instead of the ELCAN's 1x. A.R.M.S. mounts are also known to break at inopportune times...
I'm sure it's not a bad optic, but it wouldn't be my first choice based solely on anecdotal evidence that I cannot reference.

Especially for over $2k.
I read some stuff on this after you pointed it out and decided against the ELCAN for my SCAR 17.

Re: SCAR16 optic
Love the ACOG so much I bought another one after I sold my last. I don't even have a rifle for it yet!
I guess you can call it "old" technology, but it's still popular because it is simple and WORKS! No batteries to screw with. Built like a tank and smaller and lighter than a standard 1-4X. The glass is crystal clear and it's just a great scope to cover all aspects. I would feel much more comfortable dropping my ACOG onto the ground on a rifle than any other optic.

Re: SCAR16 optic
I really like the one I have on my Sig AR also. Thinking I may move it to the SCAR and get a red dot or Eotech for it.
I actually made it out to shoot it tonight. Damn near 24 hour wait sucks! haha I have drank the SCAR koolaid! I LOVE it! Even less recoil than a average AR... Crazy how little recoil it has. I really want a 17 now! SOB! haha

Re: SCAR16 optic
My Elcan DR experience is limited to range use and at that it was not even mine , so you dont really get to beat up a 2k optic on your buddies dime...lol.
