Scope Help!

Post by HEYOPEY » Mon Dec 02, 2013 12:23 am

I need some advice on a scope for my new AR build my scope skill would be low so I really need help on this one. My ranges will be 100- 400 budget around 300 and I have very bad eyesight. This gun is for plinking/ fun I have been looking at some 3-9 power scope should I go with a mil dot or something a little more simple like a BDC reticle.

Any 3 x 9 will be fine but something like one of these will allow you to practice some closer quick shooting as well if you decide to go beyond the bench. Plenty good to 400 yards.

I love my sweet 223 on my bench gun. They can be had for under 100 bucks as well. Just dial in your yardage. Mine has shot 2" at 200 yds with good weather conditions. Also look at the Bushnell with the DOA reticle I've found it to be very close with its BDC built in. Thay can be found for around 150-200

Primary Arms 1x4 Many people speak highly of this scope

They also have a 1x6

what about something like this https://www.primaryarms.com/Primary-Arm ... pa416x.htm everything that I have got from PA has fit my needs very well and I love the Customer Service. should I go with something low end like a PA or should I just put out the money does it really make that much of a difference? also should I been looking more for a mil dot or something like the BDC for a newbie like myself? last thing should go with rings or a mount I will not be taking the scope off very much?

For me, if I was to use a scope I would probably want it on a quick release mount vs rings, but that is a personal option. If this is going to be a bench gun it is not like you are going to need back up iron sights in case you drop it and destroy a scope. If the scope no worky... you pack up from the range and go home.

Vortex makes some good glass as well. SG carries a few models but you can get several options on reticles if you order direct. Lifetime warranty as well.
