Tactical Britches

Post by Bama » Tue Apr 12, 2016 10:03 pm

Looking into getting quality pants for work, and play. Looking into the 5.11 Stryke, 5.11 Taclite Pro's, and the Vertx Phantom LT's.

Any comments, or suggestions? Looking for comfortable, doesn't hold in heat during the summer, doesn't wear out in 6 months from daily wear.

Did anyone else read Tactical B***hes upon seeing the title besides me?
There are criminals among us who are both homicidal and incorrigible. Their parents took a shot at civilizing them and failed. Their school teachers took a shot at them and failed. The odds are overwhelming that government welfare programs and penal institutions took a shot at them and failed. If it ever becomes your turn to take a shot at them, don’t fail.

I wear 5.11 every day. Stryke are my favorite. Tough and comfy. Covert cargo when I have to be less tacticool but they are cotton and do shrink. Both are cooler in summer than jeans.

Guess it depends on how much you wanna spend... and how tacticool you wanna go.

$ - Blackhawk/5.11 - tacticool
$ - Vertex - discreet tacticool
$$ - Duluth - solid/daily
$$$ - Triple Aught - daily/travel
$$$$ - Cyre Precision - range/training

I like the 5.11 stryke myself. Look into tru-spec as well. We wear both at fire dept and both wear and hold up well.

I don't care about tacticool. Just want a quality pair of cargo pants that wont leave my balls feeling like they are soaking in a swamp. And stay in the lower cost spectrum.

Prefer to stay away from cotton, as I will be using them for hiking also.

I've been wearing Mountain Khakis for about three years almost exclusively. They've held up VERY well and only recently one pair has gotten a hole in the leg that hasn't spread. Very comfortable, very cool in the heat, dries quickly. The cargo pockets are small.

I wear truspecs a lot. Just enough pockets and I like the rip stop water resistant fabrics.

Have had mine for about 5 years. Holding strong

My Crye pants are what I wear hiking/camping. They are a little thicker and heavier, but the stretch in the fabric makes them comfortable as hell.

For the money, Tru Spec is hard to beat IMO.

I got 3 pairs a few years ago.... they are really comfortable and lightweight.

I believe I got mine for $34.99 a pair back when they were having a sale or something. (old US Cav in Radcliff)

I've never owned any of the other high quality stuff...But tru spec was money well spent. They've held up good. Will buy more in future

Thanks for the info. So I think I will choose between the Tru-Spec and Vertx to start with.

New question: When would cotton be recommended for our climate?

Keep checking on cabelas, there bargin cave (online as well) has a bunch of great pants often for pretty cheap. The vanity fair outlet store up here(old outlet mall) has stuff so cheap i almost refuse to shop any other place, i saw nice rebok running shoes the other day for 8 bucks, and if i pay more then 15 bucks for pants .......well i dont. I found cabelas pants in there for 11 bucks a pair last year. All that tactical preformance stuff is cool, and if you buy it for me ill rock it, but i will never spend my money on it.

FWIW I wear Vertx pants just about every day. They're comfortable, and they're relatively discreet.

While I do own a couple of pair of the lightweight versions, I don't find the standard weight trousers to be overly hot in the summertime. I suspect it's because the legs are generously sized, so you get some air movement.

Just wanted to update this thread. I picked up a pair of Duluth Flex Fire Hose and a pair of TruSpec 24/7 LT pants.

The Duluth are worth every penny for every day wear. Love them. Stupid comfortable, fit great..do wish they were boot cut.

The TruSpec's arent bad either. Can't stand the swishing noise as I walk due to the material they are made of, although the noise isn't all that loud. I'll see how they do in 95+ degree heat this weekend during a pistol course.

I love the cotton canvas 5.11 pants and Carhart makes nice ripstop pants with pockets that are easy to get into even when knives and lights are cliped to them.
