Merrell Moab...Waterproof?

So are they actually water proof? I need to pick up a new pair of boots. Since I walk a few miles each day on concrete, I figure I better get something comfortable. From what I understand, the Moab are extremely comfortable, vented so hopefully my feet sweat less, and waterproof.

If I step in a puddle or stand in a rain storm, will my feet stay dry?

I have the Moab mid goretex. Got them just under a year ago. Been on many camping trips (this weekend included) where I was in water several inches deep and my feet have always been dry.

My buddy had the non goretex ones and they were good for about a year and then started leaking so he sent them back.

I blew out an eyelit this weekend (they are sewn fabric loops) while tightening mine so they are about to be headed back. If that hadn't happened I'd be 100% happy with them.

As you can see they are muddy and wet but my feet were dry.

The ventilators are not waterproof. The mesh on the ventilators actually vents, the waterproofs do not vent very well. They(ventilators) do dry fairly quickly when they do get wet. I have a pair of each and wear my ventilators more than the gortex version.

Also I need a wider toebox shoe than merrell offers which has pushed me towards OBOZ brand from Quest. They are light and comfortable but not as flexible and soft os the merrells tend to be. I still wear my merrells alot though.

I agree with this. MOABs are some of the most comfortable shoes/boots I've ever worn. Ventilators are cool, goretex version isn't what I'd call hot but are not particularly breathable.

I have a pair if merrell mid annex gore tex an they are awesome and waterproof. I also have a pair of merrell Moab chameleon 3's which are the waterproof kind and they are extremely comfortable.

Thanks for the feedback. Too many different versions I think. I may have to find a local store or wait for Cabelas to open next month in lex to try different ones.

Try J&H Lanmark in Lex right off Nicholasville Road and New Circle they have different brands you can try, prices are not bad either.

I abused the hell out of a pair of the Moab Mid GoreTex for a little over 5 years and they were waterproof until the very end. If water resistance is the main concern I would definitely go with the Moab GoreTex http://www.merrell.com/US/en/moab-mid-g ... 14&start=1 . I liked them well enough that I picked up another pair a couple of months ago to replace the pair in the photo below.

In addition to J&H the Dicks Sporting Goods stores in Lexington carry Merrell boots. The Cabelas is supposed to open March 16.

Honestly, I am becoming more interested in a pair of Salomon than Merrell. One of the reasons are some of the negative reviews of the Moabs as of late. Too many complaints of not actually being waterproof and the lace loops breaking.

I love mine, I'll be picking up a pair of non Gor-tex light weight hiking boots/shoes in the near future

My Merrell 1st experience was this, a lost lug the 1st month or so I had them. The replacement pair have been great though so far. Their customer service is fantastic also. My only issue with the waterproofing of them is the hight. They are very short for a mid... The back of my pants hang on the back of them at my Achilles and gets my sock wet if the bottom of my pants are wet, which in turn travels down the sock and then uncomfortable wet feet... I would go taller doing it again. I think my next will be like a 8" Solomon or whatever they have around that.

My Chameleon's are starting to do that too, but I've had them for almost two years now... and they have a lot of trail miles on them

I like both. Will buy future pairs of either brand. The merrel rubber is a lot softer and can rip, but they are very comfortable also. The Salomon (and hitec) I've had were more like tire rubber and not as prone to ripping, but also harder.

I have keen mid waterproof goretex (targee 2 it think) and they never got my feet wet in snow or walking through puddles etc but I am not bear grylls so who knows how they act in a monsoon on a an island with snake pits lol.
