Used Surefire Scout
Hey guys. I have no experience with scout lights. Hoping some of you MIL and LEO guys can help me out. A friend has this light. What's it worth?

Re: Used Surefire Scout
I am a light guy and have been known to over pay for lights. But in my opinion, that one is banged up and has the crappy surefire throw lever instead of an ARMS lever. No tape switch but should have a spot to put one. Has IR and white light led. If you don't have night vision that won't mean much to you but it is a feature. I don't think that is a scout. A scout is either push button or tape switch. From the picture that appears to be a combo tape and push button switch. I'd be like $150-200 on it if it had the tape switch with it and wasn't banged up.HEYOPEY wrote:Hey guys. I have no experience with scout lights. Hoping some of you MIL and LEO guys can help me out. I'm 95% sure that's a surefire millennium universal light. I love mine.

Re: Used Surefire Scout
after seeing the pic from justang and doing some research online it is a surefire millennium universal light and the tape switch is gone it is beat up but still works good. my need for it is low but I could pick it up for a very low price should I take it or just save my money for ammo?

Re: Used Surefire Scout
My advice is if you may sell it in the future then buy it. It will likely not loose any value from a cheap used price.
If you just want a reliable rifle light you will likely keep, get an older incan surefire m952 with tape switch and button combo tailcap. Then upgrade it with a drop in led. It will be cheaper if you shop around for a 952 and you will be able to tailor the brightness to your needs.

Re: Used Surefire Scout
Well I passed on it at $60 my use for it is just to low right now for the price I have AR build in the works and other projects. But I will be posting it in the EE later if anyone is interested in it, I told him I would help him sell it maybe someone on KAC would have more use for it then I would again thanks for advice guys
Re: Used Surefire Scout
Honestly these things are way outdated with flashlight technology for their prices. Flashlights are like laptops and are outdated really quickly. I'm sure there are "brighter" options, but if I was going to spend $60 on a flashlight for a gun, I would go with a Fenix TK11 or similar again. I have several Surefires and one Fenix TK11 and honestly I like the fenix more than the Surefires. I have it mounted on my "go to" AR15 on an Elzetta mount and I really like the set up. For under $100 you can have a good light and mount, brand new.
I'm sure Shelbygoat can also offer some good real world opinions as he is another light junkie:)

Re: Used Surefire Scout
Wow I have never seen a led surefire weapon light go for less than $100. Crazy times. I guess depreciation on surefire lights is worse than a new car.
Anyways most of these cheaper China light brands like fenix are great lights. They are brighter, cheaper, and can be as durable. As for the technology, we are just talking about metal tubes with batteries and LED's so yeah...
But not too many light makers are putting out IR/white lights that are worth anything, and IR doesn't mean much value if you don't have nvg's. I'd have snagged the hell out of that light for $60
