Make yer own Ranger pace count beads

Post by Kadnine » Thu Jun 27, 2013 4:07 am

This a a good overview for anyone not already familiar with pacing beads to mark how far you've hiked. They're easy to make, and making yer own costs pennies on the dollar compared to the commercial ones you might find on base or at a surplus store or online.

Plenty of ex-mil guys and gals here on KAC to answer any questions you may have, if you wanna add one of these to your collection of tac-gear. Basically, your compass may point you in the direction you wanna travel, but ranger beads will tell you how *far* you've hiked. An elegant and simple system for tracking distance traveled. And the real beauty is how well they work for night hikes. Hang one off your collar or on a loop on yer LBV, and you can manipulate them in the dark with no light!

A nice piece of gear to have.

For if ever thou hadst experience thereof, thou wouldest counsel us to fight for it not with spears only but with axes.' Thus the Spartans answered Hydarnes." - Herodotus
