TX 22 Competition pistol vs Victory?

Post by Next » Sat Aug 13, 2022 8:03 am

Found a Taurus TX 22 comp at a pawn shop and it looked pretty sweet. Watched some reviews where they seem to be pretty accurate, but picky on ammo. I was kicking around a SW Victory competition model for bullseye shooting, but now maybe rethinking it.

Anyone have either and can give me real world experience on function. I will be using CCI Target Std Velocity ammo since I have a ton of it.

I'll be putting a red dot on it so need something with a mount.

I have the standard versions of both and really like them. The only thing the TX22 does better than the SW22 is capacity, at least in my opinion. With the Tandemkross +5 mag extensions they hold 20rds! To the SW22 I've added a Tandemkross trigger for around $40 I think and the trigger is FANTASTIC!!! I'm definitely more accurate with it, but both aren't bad at all. I'm a HUGE Ruger MK fan, but out of the box, the SW22 is better in every way. I had LOTS of issues with the TX22 mags until I cleaned all the plastic flashing out of them and they have been MUCH better. Still an occasional issue though. The SW22 had extracting issues and I installed either Tandemkross or Volquartsen extractor (can't remember which) but found some crap (pocket lint, bits of cleaning patch, etc...) in the extractor channel when I disassembled it so I'm guessing that was the issue, not the actual extractor. It has been flawless since. It's a FANTASTIC pistol!!! It's nearly stock and I still put it very close to even with my Volquartsen MKIV 22/45 that's a $1000+ pistol. I've been thinking about a Volquartsen barrel for the SW22 also. I bet it surpasses the VQ MKIV at that point.
I really like the TX22, but the SW22 is very possible my favorite. 22lr pistol ever. 22PLINKSTER said in one of his videos that if he was ever presented a $100k shot, he'd pick his pimped out SW22. NOT his Colt Woodsman, VQ Scorpion, pimped out Ruger MK, whatever... That's a HUGE statement in my mind. If you're in the Oldham, Henry or Eastend area sometime and want to borrow them both to compare, you're welcome to them...

TX22--- I added Tandemkross sights, mag extension to a few mags.

SW22-- I added the Tandemkross trigger, extractor, their wrap around grips and a comp.

Thanks for the offer. I really like the feel of the Smith model. Several of the guys shoot a Smith 41, but it is too heavy for me shooting one handed. I have a Ruger that I shoot today, but it needs upgrades so I was looking for another option.

Did I make a mistake buying a Mk IV 22/45 Lite?

I think the fit and finish and look of the Smith 41 is absolutely beautiful, but after shooting one I was definitely a bit disappointed. Not that it was bad at all, but I guess I expected it to give me that wow feeling that I got the first time I shot a high end 1911, and I didn't. It didn't empress me near enough for the cost.
I agree on the Ruger. I love the 22/45's, but they need a few mods in my opinion. The SW22 trigger with a $40 trigger swap is just as nice as the MKIV with a $175 trigger swap. Straight up untouched out of the box, I've not found a .22lr pistol I like more than the SW22.

Good deal. I seem to shoot best on the 1911 platform.

Me too. I'm not a fan of the other grip style at all.

Decent deal on a few very nice upgrades for the price, if you went with the SW22... Free shipping now also. Image

I just got back from my first range trip with my TX22 Competition. Not a Taurus fan. Had nothing but bad luck with them in the past, but this gen is a gem beyond gems. They did some serious thoughtful engineering on this gun. If feels better in the hand than my Mk4. Easier to load mags, higher capacity mags and visibly more accurate in my hands, less muzzle flip so easier to stay on target and shoot faster. I am just wowed.

I said nearly word for word what you just said when I got my TX22. It's not the competition, just the standard.

1 of my mags had a little bit of issues from the start though. Lightly wire brushed some of the plastic flashing out of it and it's been perfect since. I got 2 more and put Tandemkross +5 floor plates and they are just as good. They are definitely harder to get the last few rounds in though.

I had no issues. Pre-cleaned and lubed. Ran about 100 rounds of bulk federal and 50 rounds of CCI Standard Velocity. It's my new favorite gun to shoot!
