It appears to be patterned on the old High Standard Challenger target pistols, which were the inspiration for the original Buckmarks.

I agree... Looks a ton like my old Browning Challenger III. Same takedown and everything.

That thought also crossed my mind. In fact, the upper half does remind me of the Challenger, while the bottom half does look like the 22A, which I have never really been able to warm up to. For me, the ergos are all wrong.
