My attempt at modding a 10/22 stock

Post by etownguy » Sat Mar 23, 2013 4:19 pm

I decided I wanted to use the original carbine stock from my 10/22 on a tac sol barrel. Using 60 grit paper and a deep well socket this took ages to open up the channel. I also cut down the end of the stock. Here is my progress so far.

I like it so far there was much work involved in the butt stock it still isn't perfect but my wrists hurt from sanding so much. I dig the bare wood color so I am going to try to find a clear sealer instead of stain or varnish.

Need to order a bedding kit and a new takedown screw tonight.

Here it is finished massive props to jonwoo's for sending me a take down screw!! Not sure what it weighs but I'll guesstimate sub 4lbs with the scope on it.
I finished the wood with Deft spray clear wood finish because I liked the light color.
Need to pick up new scope rings to get it lower these were all I had laying around.

I was rumaging around in my parts box and found 4 of the action bolts the day after the Woowoo committed to give you one. If anyone else needs one, sing out, I've got plenty, and now, I even know where they are! I like the decision to go light on the finish. I opted to do the same on the Savage I'm currently working on.

Hey how did you cut out the stock? I was thinking about doing that to a carbine I have.

Need a rasp and a take off stock.

Cool might have a few more questions later.
