I just got a Savage MK II GXP with the same thought in mind. 1st step: get her to Crankenstein for a threading job. While that's happening, I'm going to aquire a Mueller AVP 4-16 and a 20 MOA scope rail. A new sling & possibly a bipod would be next.

Savage FV-SR. Perfect bolt gun. Cheap(around $250(, great trigger, already threaded for a suppressor and very accurate. Seriously is my favorite gun to shoot now.

I have a savage 93 .22WMR that I've done a couple mods to (courtesy of Cranky) Its currently for sale, but also spoken for at the moment. But still something to consider, very reasonably priced.
