That is badass! Is it a modified 10/22 or is this something you can purchase off the shelf? Is there a 17hmr version?

Thanks! I started with a new Ruger 10/22 receiver, the rest is Volquartsen. I ordered the parts and built it. It is light and very accurate. It also has a Custom Shooting Technologies auto-bolt stop installed.

Yes, there is a 17hmr version, you can order the parts or buy a complete gun from them. Check out their website, you can build a custom gun online. They are pricy, but you won't need/want to customize or wish it shot better.

This is only one of two guns I have purchased over the years and not wanted to change or customize.

It is a McMillan stock, I purchased it from Volquartsen. I think it's available from Volquartsen or Brownells now.

I will post up a range report today or tomorrow.

I love my PWS barrel.

I took a road trip down to Whittaker's yesterday, with a pit stop to meet JustShootIt and sell my Savage FV-SR.

Since I had gun-money burning a hole in my pocket now, and I was short a bolt action .22, I got a Ruger American Rimfire. It uses 10/22 mags, so I figured why not.

Turns out to be a mistake. Check out the scope base: (this model came with the base mounted, and has no iron sights)

note: the bipod is not crooked, and I installed it just to take the pictures.

That's what you get for selling a FVSR...haha I wouldn't mind having a American also since I have a mess of 10/22 mags.

Yep. My fvsr had a super smooth action...the bolt on the ruger feels like your pushing a stick through a sand pile. I am so disappointed in ruger. I took the barreled action out of the stock and set it upside down, on the scope base. I checked level on the table first. I used a square against the receiver and measured the distance on either side, and it is definitely off center. I also put a magnetic angle finder on it, and it was right at 2 degrees off center.
So the poi t is, the scope base is definitely center to the right. Which means the base screw holes were drilled off center.

...and the bolt feels like garbage.

I'm going to contact ruger, but I don't know how this is fixable, and from what I've read they'll have it for a month or longer.

Damn that sucks... Hopefully they have a better fix for you than that. Be it giving you a new one or whatever.

Keep us posted to what happens.
I was going to pick one of these up myself. Don't like the sound of this so far.

Contact them and I bet they'll fix it no problem/
There are criminals among us who are both homicidal and incorrigible. Their parents took a shot at civilizing them and failed. Their school teachers took a shot at them and failed. The odds are overwhelming that government welfare programs and penal institutions took a shot at them and failed. If it ever becomes your turn to take a shot at them, don’t fail.

I picked up a threaded version last year.

My scope base is fine but the action was rough when it was new.

Running some rounds through it helps but I'm not sure it'll ever be as good as the savage.

I'm going to call tomorrow. I just can't figure out how it would be fixable- the holes would have to be welded up, then new ones drilled and the receiver refinished. I doubt they'll go to that trouble on a $250 gun...
