22 ballistic charts??
Does anyone know where to find good info or logs for 22 ammo? ie...bullet drop at "x" yds and/or velocity at "x" yds etc....I tried to use googlefu but didnt find anything relevant.
I've always shot alot of 22, but I usually plink around within 25/50 yds and occasionally goofed off with 100 yd shots. Within the past couple days I've tried shooting 200 yds......its been a little more challenging than I thought to be honest.
If I am using 38 grain sub sonic ammo and at 25 yds my POA & POI are "dead on"......50 yds bullet drops ~1 inch......100 yds ~2.5/3 inches.......then I moved to 200 yds and my POI is ~27 inches below POA!
Is it me or does that seem like a crazy amount of drop for 200 yds, especially when bullet drop is only 2.5/3 inches at 100 yds......any info or personal experience appreciated

Re: 22 ballistic charts??
Slight correction......at 100 yds I was shooting a Mt Dew can and POA was approx 2.5/3 inches above top of the can and POI was dead center of the can.....so bullet drop would be closer to 5/6 inches.....it seems crazy that the bullet would drop 20+ inches within the next 100 yds......It took me forever to get on paper at 200 because I started by shooting 6 inches high (no luck) then 12 inches (no luck) tried approx 16 inches (again no luck).....At that point I figured it was me or perhaps the scope.....went back to shooting 25 & 50 yds and I was hitting consistently like before......then I went back to 200 yds and out of desperation I shot about 2 ft high.....finally I was on the paper, lol....by this time it was getting dark and I only got to shoot about 5 more rounds....the last 5 were in a crazy nice group but I can't believe it has that much drop.....just curious if any others have first hand experience....

22 ballistic charts??
I have 2 really good books on ballistics in general and on rimfires with ammo specific/rifle specific charts. Ill post em when I get home. You should buy them. Great way to spend $40.

Nikon Spot on ballistics site also has a pretty nice ballistics/drop chart for different production ammo or custom loads.

Really cool chart! I wish I had that kind of distance at my house to try some of these out. I may have to cut a path through the woods...hahainthewaterky wrote:This might help you as well.

Re: 22 ballistic charts??
This is very interesting and a very cool link.........
Copied from the site:
It's challenging to shoot a 22 LR Rimfire all the way out to 200 yards. These slow moving bullets drop like a rock after 100 yards. Starting with a 50-yard zero, a 40-grainer with 1050 fps muzzle velocity drops 26" at 150 yards and a whopping 55" at 200. From your 50-yard zero, you'll have to crank in 16.3 MOA at 150, and 26.3 MOA at 200. That may be a problem for some scopes so you may need to resort to angled bases or Burris Signature Rings with offset bases. The Burris rings let you pre-load up to 20 MOA of "up" elevation.
This table shows how the 22 LR can be an effective substitute for a .308 Win during training. Because the smaller bullet drifts more in the wind, a 22 rimfire shooter will experience roughly the same crosswind effects as if he was shooting a 175gr .308 twice as far out. So, rimfire work can teach you to dope the wind like a .308, but at less than half the distance. Shooting a 22 LR at 100 yards is like shooting a .308 (with 175 SMK) at 230 yards. Both drift nearly four inches in a 10 mph full-value crosswind. Shooting a 22 LR at 200 yards is like shooting a .308 (with 175 SMK) at 440 yards. Those are the comparable distances at which both 22 LR and .308 Win bullets are pushed roughly 14 and a half inches.
This is becoming a new addiction!

Re: 22 ballistic charts??
Yep, this brings 22lr into a whole new light.....guess its nothing "new" but nothing I've tried....
After I get home tonight I am going to measure out a "sure" 200 yds and see what I can do....I think I found some steel that will work good with 22....especially at 200 yds.....

Re: 22 ballistic charts??
Have fun and enjoy.. Nothing like shooting 200 yards plus to a metal target and hearing the "plink" Lots of people think I am full of shit when I talk about long range 22 shooting

Replace that bottom metal as well when you have a chance. DIP makes them and really improves the gun overall. http://www.diproductsinc.com/Detail.asp ... 9&CAT=3602
