.22LR ammo test
took the basically stock + VQ trigger job 10/22 out today to test 4 different lines of ammo. not surprisingly the Winchester was the worse by far. all of this was shot off a rest at 40 yards roughly.
The scope was not sighted in at all kinda just shooting for the paper.
Winchester M22 - only one I shot 20 rounds the rest was only 10. I shot more to see if I could find a center to the chaos. bottom three shots are to be ignored also
CCI - stinger I am thinking ignore the top shot
CCI - Velocitor - By far the best out of the group
CCI Mini Mag
to be fair this scope ( Nikon Prostaff rimfire 150 BDC) will be returned Monday because it is a POS. but this is how MY gun shot each of these rounds. a bull barrel and stock will be on order soon enough for this along with a better scope.

Re: .22LR ammo test
after doing a ton of reading I think I fubarred my factory stock by channeling it out at the front to "free-float" it. it did shoot better than this the last time I shot.
That being said I have ordered a .920 Bull Barrel and Hogue stock for it. delivery date is the 13th.. so I might just have to sight it in on the 14th!
I hate this damn gun because it is too easy to buy stuff for

Its my understanding that you should not free float the barrel on a 10/22 if you have a heavy barrel because it can crack the receiver.
Free floating a 22 isn't needed for tac driving accuracy. What you should do is use a stock that won't vary the force on the barrel due to shooting position or weather. A wood stock will change the pressure exerted on the barrel as temp and humidity change and shift point of impact. Some synthetic stocks are weak and will bend under sling load.
A good synthetic stock will be rigid and apply even consistent pressure on the barrel. Some even allow you to tune where on the barrel the pressure is exerted.

Also was thinkin about the bull barrel you are getting and wanted to remind you to not use cleaning rods on it from the muzzle end.
Buy 2 bore snakes and use one dry every 50 rounds while you are on the range. Use the other at home with solvents on it. Every so often break it down and use a rod on the barrel from the chamber end.
22 ammo uses glass beads in the rim to create friction on the primer material. Those abrasive beads blow down the barrel and that coupled with lead fouling from non jacketed 22 ammo leads to every shot being like sandblasting the barrel.

Re: .22LR ammo test
learned a long time ago from my dad ti NEVER stick a rod down the barrel because of the crown. a bore snake is all I use.
I have spent too much time trolling rimfirecentral and have picked up a lot of little tips from them about everything.
I bought the Adams & Bennett Barrel it is the second cheapest Midway sold $104.99 and had 46 4-5 star reviews with no negative. and everything I have found online says it is a great barrel for the money many say it is a re-badged Green Mountain.
everything will be here today and I plan to do a little "build up" thread showing the other things I did to the gun once I get it all here. hopefully it works well

The 10/22 is one of the most common guns people jam rods down. I have seen a few that have holes in the receiver so you can run a rod through after taking out the bolt instead of having to remove the barrel. Is that on all new rugars or is that a custom mod?
