Remington 597 Short Review/Shot Groups
I picked this gun up a while back for my youngest daughter......at the time I wasn't really in the market for a 597, but was on the look out for a decent 22 and she mentioned more than once that she wanted one with the laminated stock....this one popped up and I decided to snag it........My daughter fell in love instantly and we have shot it on the regular since I gave it to her....Tonight I decided to put a new scope(a Bushnell 3x9x40 I found laying around) on it and while I had it out and getting it sighted in, I decided to shoot a few shot groups with various ammo and see how it done.
Remington 597 with bull barrel, Bushnell 3x9x40 and bi-pod (brand?)
Winchester 36 grain Copper Plated Hollow Points: 25 yds
Winchester 36 grain Copper Plated Hollow Points: 50 yds
Winchester 36 grain Copper Plated Hollow Points: 75 yds
Blazer 40 grain: 25 yds
Blazer 40 grain: 50 yds
Blazer 40 grain:75 yds
Aguila 60 grain Sniper SubSonic: 25 yds
Aguila 60 grain Sniper SubSonic: 50 yds
Aguila 60 grain Sniper SubSonic: 75 yds
Overall the shot groups aren't exactly impressive or close to some of the 10/22 tack drivers I've seen posted, but it's "respectable".............I was really surprised that the Blazer grouped as nice as it did. Lately that's about all I shoot and the groups are nice enough that I would count on it to consistently shoot small game....It shot much better than the Winchester...........The Aguila was really nice ammo.....it was really quiet and grouped nice.
Only complaint I have with the gun is it's hard to get hi-cap mags that work. Only plan I really have for the gun is to get the barrel threaded. When/if I get my tax stamp, this would make a nice suppressor host.

Looks like it will be a great gun for your daughter though!

Did the Aguila actually work the action? I have had issues with the Aguila Super Colibri functioning in a semi auto. I keep them pretty much for a bolt action or revolver....

Re: Remington 597 Short Review/Shot Groups
The Colibris are essentially CB rounds, pushing an underweight bullet at 500-600 fps. They won't cycle a semi-auto.
The 60 grain subsonics increase the bullet weight to bring what would otherwise be a supersonic round (>1100 fps) down to less than 1000 fps.

Yes....the Augila would cycle the action consistently....I had one or two that the bolt failed to close all the way, but they worked nice....they stink something awful when shot....
They are basically a 22 short with a big 60 grain bullet

I shoot a ton of Aguila, I was more talking of the fact the Super colibri or the Sniper subsonics do not have powder to work the action. I was suprised JSI said they worked in the 597...jackalo626 wrote:Aguila 9mm works fine in a semi auto pistol.

I have heard the same of high-cap magazines also. Can't wait to get mine out to shoot.
